If you have a laptop or PC, do you shut it down before going to bed 💻🤔?

When I was at MY house and had my stereo in my bedroom, I did but, where I am now, the computer is my only source of music and I like to listen to some when I go to bed so, it stays on all night, until I can get my stereo up here, but I only have it set to play for about 3.5 hours so, after that, it goes to sleep, too. I mostly only use the laptop when I'm eating so I have something to watch and I put it to sleep as soon as I'm done but, on some occasions, if it's acting a bit goofy, I'll actually shut it off when I'm done.
Yes, there's no need to consume electricity for no reason. Unless some process is still going on.
Thanks for M. H. O. :)
No, leave it on unless it is acting up. then I will reboot it. Is that bad?
I always shit my pc down
*shut oop
That doesn’t sound very sanitary..

Yes.
I'd like to save myself the trouble of having to deal with glitches and a freezing PC. Besides, coming from an time where most computers ran with BIOS, I find that most PCs today turn on and start up EXTREMELY fast anyway, thanks to UEFI.
If the kids today experienced BIOS, they'd have no issues turning off their PC regularly these days. Hahaha.
My main PC and my NAS never get turned off - they're on UPSs to ensure they're never off, in fact. My laptops get turned off when not in use, and I have a couple of other PCs that are used occasionally, but my primary PC only goes into power-save mode - it never gets shut off.
What UPS do you use that lasts 9 to 11 hours running a computer?
Great question. I intercepted some UPSs from a defunct business that were headed to eWaste recycling, and I replaced the batteries myself for $250. I have a pair of setups with 1 UPS and 2 external battery packs each. The NAS will run just under 7 hours, and my main PC about 8 if idling or about 5 under heavy load (rendering video). If I had to buy the UPSs and external batteries new, it would be about $2,000, so the $250 to replace the batteries was a bargain.
I also have a large solar system, so during the day, I can easily run the house on solar power as the system produces a bit more electricity than we use during the entire day, so there is a net surplus.
A couple of Tesla power walls and I wouldn't need street power at all. Unfortunately, those are really expensive.
I'm adding this to my setup goals, thank you.
Yep, I shut it down every night. It's mainly a habit from when I was using Windows, whose stability really suffers from being left on constantly. But even though I *could* leave it on indefinitely now since switching to Linux, I don't see a reason to waste all that power, especially since it boots in a seconds thanks to the SSD. The only time I leave it on is for a long download, in which case I'll schedule a shutdown for a little while after it's estimated to finish.
I always shut it down, memory can stack up and cause performance issues and even if your rig is good enough to handle that. If your on the net, you can't get remotely hacked if its shut down. let alone not payin for the extra electricy
No, I just lock the screen. I rarely restart it. It usually restarts when Microsoft does an update... and I occasionally restart it if there's a problem, like it loses track of my external speakers, or loses its WiFi connection and won't reconnect.
Yes as it is connected to a usb c dock that shuts off all my lights at desk when I shut down my computer. As well as benefits of shutting down in windows.
None of my computers are ever shut down except to restart. My NAS/Media Server obviously is always on, and I'm usually doing something on my main pc overnight (downloading, running something etc.)
My older mac is dementing and will forget what date/time it is. If in the middle of something will keep it running until done.
Absolutely! Shut it down, close the lid and unplug it.
by the way - I turn off my phone off at night too. And I don't turn it on until I'm showered, dressed and ready to leave my bedroom.
No, I leave mine running and only shut if off occasionally just to clear the memory card and reset the software.
I always do. Kinda weird not to do it. Except if you sleep like 3 hours but if not its weird not to shut it down.
Once in a while but, I mainly go to sleep with a movie app going
I shut down whenever I'm done using it, even if I'm not going to bed.
Mine is too old and makes a lot of noise haha so yes
I do. Specifically, I watch out for the overcharging thing.
My PC was originally built to host servers before I got it and turned it into a gaming rig so it can 24/7 without any issues.
That's so cool bro.
@Phoenix98 What happens if the power goes out while you are asleep though, backup batteries only last a few hours. You got a generator? Solsr Panels? Orcsome other secret cheaper option?
Solar*
Aren't you worried about data corruption or damaging the hardware?
When I stop using it, it gets turned off.
takes seconds to start, so pointless leaving it on.
My laptop is always in sleep mode so I can resume work quickly the next day without having to set up everything each morning.
My desktop isn't much used anymore therefore always off
At bedtime or leave the house and most of the time if I know I will be outside for most of the day.
I've never shut my laptop down. I just close the lid.
You should, people can hack into the camera, true story
I have had a lot of problems with a 14-15 kid hacking into my wifi. Removing me from my own system and thinking he could game on my 5G. Every single day. I had to end up hardwiring as local law would do nothing.
See, it's only a matter of time before they get into your camera 😂
I taped that when I brought it home. lol
Smart choice lol
Until face-reading tech came out it was. 😬
Can't relate I don't use face recognition 😆
Yes, I shut it down at night. Electricity was 5 bucks a gallon the last time I looked.
I do and iPad I put Do not disturb. I get no notifications, emails. Only people contact me. Our those in my contacts. Though I sleep from 5 am to 2 pm.
Most newer model PCs, within past 5 years, have a sleep mode the PC will go into if not used within 30 mins, same as my monitor. It costs next to nothing to leave it on during nighttime.
I rarely shut my work laptop down. Just lock it and close lid
I try to shut it off every night but sometimes I’ll just let it go into sleep mode
I do. Unless I am installing something and it's taking a while
I shut both down daily. Work computer I restart daily or I do not get updates
not really but I think my laptop automatically shutsdown after an hour if it's closed.
When I remember to do it, i turn off my laptop before bedtime
My laptop gets shut down, my desktop runs 24x7.. and so does the two servers i have in my basement.
If it my personal laptop i shut it down
If it's companies i just close the lid
I just close it which automatically puts it into sleep mode, whic isn't exactly off, but doesn't consume battery
Always. That’s how you preserve the life of your computer.
Right after using my lappy... it gets shut down all the time everytime
Yeah it's needs some be shutdown once awhile or go on sleep mode.
I keep my new LTE laptop on 24/7 almost. I use it at night to watch movies before going to sleep
Yes, but I am also tempted to stay up late with the laptop because I am extremely detail-oriented.
Not every night. But it’s like your brain, needs rest.
mine runs 24/7 and just shut down for updates, installs and if there's an issue.
Laptop i just close it as for my nas server leave it on.
I just use my phone, that pic is so chill by the way
Of course. Otherwise it would be a waste of energy. You stupid!!!
Yes I learned to do so the hard way. I'm into gaming so my desktop is running pretty well all day/night.
I turn off wifi and haev camera blocked. I need to start blocking the mic too
I always shut down my laptop or pc before going to bed.
Usually, unless I'm doing a long download. I'll let it run if I am.
I usually put it in sleep mode
yes, it goes off before I go to bed...
I just buy a new one every day
Always shut it down after use.
i just close the lid.
Depends how lazy I'm being
Yes, I shut everything down.
Usually yes, unless I forgot.
Did shut down my laptop.
Yes, I log off of mine before I go to sleep
Yes, always. I take good care of my PC.
No I honestly keep it on
I turn my pc & my phone off when I go to bed.
