Some cranks have claimed there are few collisions in Galaxy mergers. This computer simulation shows countless Supernovas triggered as stars collide, and binary quasars exploding entire galaxies apart as the black hole mergers happen. What do you think now, cranks?

There are four basic types of galaxies.
1). Elliptical galaxies , which is the predominant galactic structure at this time.
2). Spiral galaxies are characterized by a central budget, and spiral arms where young stars are born in stellar nurseries.
3.). Barred spirals, are spiral galaxies which have a prominent bar like structure across their central bulge. The milky way is such a galaxy.
4). Finally we have irregular galaxies, which are smaller structures such as the large and small magellanic clouds which orbit the milky way in a spherical halo which is analogeous to the way that objects in the oort cloud orbit our solar system.

Elliptical galaxies are the most predominant galaxies in the universe. All galaxies will eventually become an elliptical galaxy through a process known as galactic cannibalism.
