Internet Explorer is the true OG. 🥲
Internet Explorer was our go to, during the early days of grade school.
So, I don't know what Netscape is…LOL 🤣🤣🤣
I have heard of it, but I don’t know much about it. 😂😂😂

Legend has it they sent the shutdown command 5 years ago but IE just got the command today
I'm just saying... And edge isn't much better either.
The current iteration of Edge is literally a modified Chromium browser

IE was pretty good in the day, surpassed Netscape when that thing got too bloated. But like a lot of Microsoft things in the early 2000s they took their eye off the ball. Could have kept themselves on-top if they really wanted to as they did help set new standards, and pushed web boundaries further. They couldn't kill off IE for years because you had companies still using expensive systems that still used ActiveX and no other browser supported it so it was kept around as legacy tool.
Edge is a good browser now, and it's based on Chromium.
This is the tech world. Here even a moth old smartphone becomes obsolete in the next month.
I don't have Internet Explorer in my laptop but I have Edge instead. This browser is awesome. No problems at all.
They have given premium editing features for free.
But I am using Firefox, Brave and very rarely Chrome, as I really do not like that browser.
Netscape is like today's To**ent. You could download any music you liked and I believe could also upload any music you wished.
IE did come out before Mozilla Firefox, but you need to know that Mozilla was created from Netscape which was the dominant browser before IE. Back in the early days of the web, I used Netscape and AltaVista. IE came later and became dominant because IE was included with Windows. This led to the anti-trust lawsuit against Microsoft.
Anyway, Firefox was based on Netscape, so, in a sense, it is older than IE... its origins certainly are.
It did not die on that date. There is no date that it will be dead. But it has been a poor browser amongst what is available for a long time. That date was the day that Microsoft stopped supporting it. No more updates. No more fixes. No more help with it. But it will continue working as it is. Some people may be reading this using it and know that it is not dead.
I haven't used it in 16 years, it had a lot of crashes and errors and I quickly switched to Firefox. Nowadays I use Vivaldi and I highly recommend it, it's not owned by Google or a Chinese company both of which spy on you.
Damn, took long enough. As crappy as "default" browsers are nowadays, like Edge, nothing was worse than Internet Explorer. It should've died around the same time Blockbuster did.
Ok joygirl i graduated high school in 1995 and less than a month later the internet came out and yet I still feel the same age as you nice try though on trying to make me feel old lol just messing with you
@Snsl153 it depended where u lived. The Internet didn't come out nationwide. If u lived 10 miles near pacific bell or a similar telephone company. u were qualified. But ddos was the first form I experienced the internet. Then engine browser made its debut. It was picture... a picture took about 10 minutes to 30 , depending on quality. If a call was coming in it would disrupt any progress. The part many people leave out. U better have know the exact website, because their wasn't any suggestions or (did u mean...) Then when dsl came around holy shit. Proxy or p2p-fs was the shit. 1 hour = one song. Then the rest is history. We haven't progressed since broadband and fiber-optic cable came around.
Some problems? .. SOME problems? :O Yes, yes I did, it was the biggest cause of viruses known to man at one point.
May it rest in pieces.. hoyckkkk patoooooeeeyy :d
What ya think? Over the top? A bit?
May MSIE rest in peace. I haven't used it in probably 10 years.
@exitseven I was too young. 😂
@exitseven Yeaaaa…it is old old…lol 🤣
@exitseven Netscape was my first browser, back in AOL dialup days at 9600 baud. Unless I'm mistaken, Netscape evolved into Firefox, which, along with Chrome, are the browsers I use most often.
@AviatorTom Yes, Firefox sort of evolved from Netscape. When i was in grad school one of my fellow students dod a class project about something called the World Wide Web. He talked about HTML and Mosaic browsers. I had no idea what he was talking about and wondered who would use such a ridiculous thing. Go figurel
@AviatorTom. Yes, Netscape became Firefox
Why though? It may be a little dated now, but it still works, it still does the job it was designed to do.
Probably to lessen the time Microsoft spends maintaining older versions of its products. About a year ago Microsoft ended updates on its Office 2010 package. Also, it has stopped updating older versions of Windows.
Incorrect, Windows 10 is still being supported and given updates, and will continue to do so until October 2025. By then, Windows 10 will no longer receive culminative nor security updates. It can still be used after much like any other past Windows, but the liability is then on the user if their PC is compromised. Windows 11 should've been an optional update to 10 instead of being its own OS.
@bingbongbangbung I said Office 2010. Not Windows 10.
D: ... the kids won't know about the time the teacher says "click on the big "E" "
it was good times... sorta.
We'll probably get their official notification a decade from now
and I was just using it a couple days ago... damn...
I first read the internet was dying today... had to do a second take. I haven't used IE in ages, I hope it auto uninstalls.
DoD sent out a message a while back that gave daily reminders saying internet would sunset on the 15th. This was coming but took a few years to do so. Everything is now Edge and Chrome from the look of it
I used it as a kid with aol lol but it was alesys thr crappier browser wants firefox came out i ditched it
No I didn't know that. But not surprised. I used to use it but haven't for probably years now. I don't remember why I switched exactly, but some sort of issue I was having that I've never had with Chrome, and have stuck with since.
WHAT‽ I thought Edge replaced it YEARS ago!
Whatever the case, I've been using the faster, more secure Firefox and/or Waterfox, as well as the far more private T. O. R.
And yet, it IS true:
www.microsoft.com/.../internet-explorer.aspx
O Rest in Peace. The best browser to download another browser.
It died on my PC every time I installed the windows OS. I use FireFox.
Regarding Update.
Check out Firefox. It has nice features and very customizable addons.
Yup i know. i work as an IT guy. We have been praying for this day because a lot of legacy apps and the like for banking and medical are now FORCED to update their code.
I thought it was already dead? Personally I miss Netscape Navigator.
I'm not surprised. They ended support for it years ago.
Haha yep. Not getting rid of me that easy
Pathetic browser since the start. Do you know know Netscape, Microsoft incorporated IE in windows to wipe out Netscape.
IE has always been the most unsafe browser.
That makes me a little bit said, even though I mostly use chrome but IE is where it all started for me.
*sad*
Let me grab my violin and play something quite melancholy as I cry myself to sleep. Utterly tragic! 😥
I think 2017 was the last time I used it. My computer still has it. I gotta admit, the browser kinda gave nostalgia vibes. RIP.
yeah I feel nothing
does this mean I'm a psychopath
Whoah. Are you serious?
And of course you don't know about Netscape. Haha
Thank fuck, it should have been removed ages ago.
It was a security nightmare.
Yeah, I heard about Internet Explorer dying today well I never trusted it was supposed to give people problems and it was a slow browser
Netscape is older
Technically, it still exists at the core of Firefox!
Whatever happened to Marc Andreesen?
To be perfectly honest, who really cares unless you're on the MS Internet Support Team lol So you'll have to expand your horizons my theory throughout life whether it be in education or careers has been nothing ventured nothing gained, 😉😁
I never knew that. Today is 18th June 2022 so that means it is dead already.
Ah the browser that a lot of people used because it came with windows.
I didn't know. But it's not a loss to me.
I also wasn't ''sad'' when 'netscape' disappeared.
They come, and they go.
It actually died over 20 years ago. But there were strange folks who still used it.
Anyone remember Netscape Navigator?
I think I heard about this. I mostly use Safari but sometimes Chrome too.
None are really that great and all need major improvements!
My only experience with it was when a program or whatever open a web page and internet explorer would take ages to load... Lol it was so annoying..
I didn't but IDC either. IE is good for one thing only: to download a real browser. 🤣
Yah but Nexus beat them by 5 years the WorldWideWeb was the first browser. Circa 1990
I knew ut had been on the way out. I switched to Edge ages ago.
I Didn’t know people still use internet Explorer I thought they replace it years ago with edge like in 2011
Edge came with Windows 10 which didn't arrive until 2015
It should’ve died years ago. I’m surprised it was around for as long as it was
internet explorer was a stillbirth xD they kept it on life-support untill yesterday.
Well it was in coma and on life support so they are pulling it's plug and edge is shittier 🤣
yeah good old times of the old interwebs. no trolling. no shit. everybody was happy to have it
Rip
i remember it as always the web page with the slowest speed
Haha yep my brother showed me that. I think a lot of people are going to be happy.
Man, fuck that web browser, but respect to it at the time.
No I use safari, haven’t used that in 10 years, too many problems and slow
::Laughs in Netscape Navigator::
Dear Internet Explorer,
I will never forget your contribution in downloading Google Chrome.
R. I. P.
I first used a computer in 2nd grade almost 9 years ago and it had internet explorer
I appear to be using Chrome. If IE is dead I don't expect there will be crowds at the funeral.
Did not know that..
Time to delete it off my laptop.
Why?
I don’t know about how factual is this.. but guess who? my grandmother still uses the internet explorer.
Yay! It was horrible to use and impossible to support from a web developer POV.
Good... It sucked anyway
