When did you first connect with the internet?

I was 12 and took an internet class at school where we learned about search engines like Alta vista among others and I was bored and uninterested but when I was 15, internet became a huge part of my life and I was online for 4 hours a day at times playing Pokémon which used to be free if you had internet.

I was in graduate School majoring in Computer Science in the 1990s. A fellow student did a class project on something called the World Wide Web. He talked about Mosaic Browsers and HTML and web pages. When he was finished I thought the whole thing sounded ridiculous.

I think it was 1993 that I had bought my first modem and connected to a service called Prodigy.

I ran a BBS as a kid back in 1989, I also connected to DARPAnet and fidonet. Mosiac (not the first browser that's a lie!!!) to me was just a gui on top of ftp.

Usually you would connect (modem) then go to an ftp server on DARPA maybe get a readme file and a directory. Fidonet got your email through and BBS was your Facebook.

1992 or so… with a Commodore Amiga and an expensive Zyxel 19k Baud modem. Good times! 🙂🙂
