Why aren't old photoshoped photos called photoshop?

Why aren't they called photoshop?

Photoshop is a digital program, and those are analoge alterations.

also photoshop became popular on the later 2000s if i remember correctly, so anything before that, couldn't be called photoshop, as the program wasn't around.

So it was just called Visual effects or something like this.

Version 1.0 came in Feb 1990, the very first version 0.63 came in 1988 and development began in 87 so yes, photoshop was around in late 80s, but the program didn't sell well back in the days, just 200 copies and it took quite some time until the name was known espacially to the common folks and not just the professional digital artists and designers.

Thats why i took an educated guess with early 2000s, maybe late 1990s until photoshop was known. And that was also the time the first social media networks became really big, so there was the first big market for digital altered photos.

The same reason iPhones aren't called "Nokia iPhones" despite most of the patents used belonging to Nokia.

Photoshop is the program by Adobe, but the technique to alter programs is much older and varied across various programs like Corel and Inkscape

Because photoshop is the software that is used for advanced editing. But you might be interested to know photoshop was a big part in preserving the vocabulary and knowledge of how these things were done back in the day.

Photoshop isn't an effect. It's the name of a software. People just started saying "it looks photoshopped" after they started learning what it is. It's a very new term.
