Subways and monorails won't count here.
Trains are still a thing in the UK. The photo is of sugar loaf Station which gets one passenger per week on average (that's actually true).
I'm not a fan and prefer the convenience of a car but if you want to hit the alcohol on a night out a train is often your best bet.
One thing I can't stand is the stress of having to change trains. If you miss your connection it's a nightmare.
There's a station here called Dovey junction bang in the middle of nowhere. When your train stops it splits in two with one part heading north the other south. When they make the announcement you can see the sheer terror in people's faces when they don't know what section they're sitting in.

I lived in the UK for 7 weeks a few years ago while doing field work that involved a lot of traveling, which I did by train because it was much cheaper and more convenient than renting a car. At the end of that, I took a trip onto the continent, and rather than fly, took a train. It was fun traveling from Edinburgh to Stuttgart through all that countryside, plus the Chunnel.
I first rode on an LIRR train when I was 5 or 6.
I've taken an LIRR train into Manhattan and back a few times.
Same with Amtrak going round-trip from Albany to Manhattan or Albany to Buffalo.However. in 2007, I took the Thalys TGV bullet train (300 km/hr) round-trip between Brussels / Bruxelles and Paris.

Up to distance of 500km between cities are high speed trains better than flying. Check in and check out last in trains less than 2 minutes and train stations are always placed in city centers. That's why a 250 km/h fast train wins with 1000 km/h fast airplane. The one at the amusement park. That was at least 20-some years ago.
I have a VERY VAGUE recollection of being on one when I was about 4 or 5 years old but, I don't think it actually went anywhere. We were just looking around on board for a few minutes, kind of a guided tour on a real train. The closest I've come to being on a real one to actually go somewhere is the subway. The last time was about 4 years ago.I rode Amtrak's 'The Empire Builder' in a sleeper car from Chicago to Portland, OR about 15 years ago.
For me, the train is the best way to travel long distance.
The dining car had excellent food and I met many friendly people.
No, I can’t remember ever riding on the train. I’ve flown in private planes, but I cannot remember ever going on a train since moving to the states. In England , we took the underground all the time, but that’s hardly the same thing!
I think it was late 2012, with some friends.
We went to a restaurant to another city and we took a train.
That aside, I probably went to them a lot more when I were younger, but even then, not so often.
I've ridden both directions on the California Zephyr, I've also taken light rail, heavy rail and ridden the train at Disneyland, in the last few years.
It's been months, everything I need is closer than the train station, but I've booked a trip to the UK next year by train. I end up ten minutes walk from my destination in London.
Just a little girl and it was soo... so... SOOOO long ago. I don't know where tf we were going but... god, how time has passed by.

Yes, I did. A couple of times when I was little and then I was a teenager. So, it has probably been 12 or 13 years since I was on a train.
Our City had passenger trains years ago, but they got rid of them back in the later 50's-60's. I rode on a train down at the Kenny Wood Amusement Park many times.
I rode on a train once, it was fun and I would ride again if I ever get the chance to. it was emptier and more peaceful than expected lol
Six weeks ago returning from New York City. Took my wife there and back for our anniversary.
Everyday to work haha Trains and busses are pretty common and normal here
I travelled on the underground whilst on a holiday in Amsterdam, but as that counts not, a long time ago definitely, in either New York or in Tenerife.
On a train or in a train? I ride in a train about twice a week, don't drive atm and the train fare to nearest big town is less than parking charge,,,
Was yesterday. Thanks to a lack of wagons everyone was pretty stacked. Three wagons only.
I LOVE long distance trains. I have ALWAYS LOVED them. If I didn't know better, I could swear I was born on a train! My earliest and best memories were on trains!
Last time I took the metro was the day I moved into my old new home. 😭
I've never been on a train. I prefer to drive so I have control of what's happening. I don't even like being a passenger in a car
It has been many years since I have ridden a train.
