+1 yI ride the train all the time here in Japan including shinkansen (bullet train). It's my preferred mode of transportation and I tend to favor it even more than driving since I don't need a designated driver if I drink, it tends to be much cheaper, and I can do things like read books without getting motion sickness.

Rush hour can be a bit unpleasant though, like so:
![Have you ever traveled via train?]()
... I'm fairly used to it though.

yes, I used to LOVE it... not many trains left, Dining Car, Bar Car, Sleepers, constant change of view... one time I picked a seat on the wrong side of the train... "Pacific Coast Starlighter" instead of an ocean view... I saw Junkyards and highways... NOT a Scenic Vista

+1 yGrowing up in New York I've practically lived kn trains. Now, outside of the subway I have taken trips from NY down to Florida and cross country to Seattle. By far the best way to travel. 100% not time friendly, but the scenery is always 👌

Amtrak. Took around 3 days
+1 yI did a few hours on a trip in France, from Paris to Versailles. That was cool.
I'd love to do more train travel, though. I wish trains were more prevalent in my city - I'd use a train over a car every day if it were practical.10 Reply

But like a commoner, you know. Take the train to the capital or elsewhere things will go down. Trips could range from 20min to 9hours. I do most of the sleeping.10 Reply
+1 ySure into NY city or local for fun. I never traveled very long distances. I actually really want to go on a long train ride across country
20 ReplyYes I have and the moment I could afford it, I started travelling by air. Trains in my country are overcrowded, you can literally have six guys sitting in a seat made for three or four, irrespective if they have paid for the ticket or not.

At 30 I went to India on a mission trip in New Delia we were to take a train North just South of Pakistan's border. I got on that train and the rocking motion out me right to sleep. I missed that one too

+1 yYes. Worse mode of transportation ever. Too many rail bumpings. And the train rocks you back and forth like a mom putting her baby to sleep. I wanted to puke

Over there in the US train lines are hard to find if you're not in a metropolitan area
+1 yYes, I don’t live too far from Boston and I live right next to the train station so I’ve taken the train there many times. It’s about a 45 minutes ride.
And last summer I took a train to New York to visit my brother that just moved there10 Reply1.9K opinions shared on Travel topic. Yes, I took Amtrak to go to NYC. It was a really nice ride. Ittook about 4 hours and it ended up right in Penn Station. If I flew instead it would probably take the same amount of time and it would be a horror show.

I last went on one about 10 years ago.10 ReplyI've always wanted to do the whole sleeper train thing. Haven't had the opportunity yet.

We took a train in Thailand that had a sleeper car. We also paid extra for an air conditioned car. It was hilarious. We were still sweating like pigs, and the beds looked just like The Skipper and Gilligan's hammocks. lol All you had was a curtain you could shut to divide yourself from others. If you went to the bathroom and looked into the toilet, you could see the train tracks. No holding tank. It just flew all over the tracks. I loved it. But only once. We flew back to Bangkok.
Yes it's my preferred way to travel within the country.

10 Replyonly a few times but here in America passenger railways suck
14 Reply- +1 y
ReallyS? Why
- +1 y
@grierwrange well the main passenger train service we have is Amtrak and its owed by the government it was supposed to be a temporary solution because the government expected some companies would make their own passenger rail service but that never really happened so now all we have is a Amtrak which docent even own a majority of the rain lines in the country ao it has to stop for all cargo trains sense Amtrak is sharing their tracks and cargo trains get top priority sense they own the railroad meaning Amtrak trains are notoriously much slower than just driving
+1 yYes, my Father was a Pullman Porter so we rode the train for free!

My favorite was the Dining Car with the white linen table cloths!

United States, it has been a long time but I think it was Union Pacific!
- +1 y
My father was born in 1906 and retired in the seventies. His obituary states “employed by the Pullman Co. and Union Pacific Railroad Co.” In 2022 it probably is a freight-only company!

Is the train preferred within the borders of the USA? I'm asking for passenger transportation. The rail network in the USA is very extensive. Which vehicle is used the most for travel between cities and interstates? train, bus, plane... in my country, it is considered rich in terms of railroads, but for some reason the number of flights is quite low. And since there are rough lands in many regions, it is not possible to build railways everywhere. but the views are beautiful. In fact, many things are possible with today's technology, but if it is not popular, it will be done in vain. At least, the number of trips on existing lines should be increased. I don't live in America.

We live in a society that everyone wants everything immediately so I would think Airplanes are probably the most popular!
