Not online, but I did have a scammer call me on the phone about a year ago, that I played along with.
Him. I'm calling from your ISP (Internet Service Provider)
--------He didn't know what it stood for when I asked him!! Off to a great start right? So I thought I would play along.
Me:- Oh right OK.. what do you want?
Him:- You are having trouble with your computer?
Me:- Yes, actually I am, there is something very wrong with it!
Him:- Good, I can help you fix it.
Me:- How?
Him:- (lots of button press requests to let him have full access to my computer)
Him:- I don't understand. You've pressed and followed everything I told you to do, yet I cannot see you here on my computer..
Me:- Well, no, you wouldn't!
Him:- Why is that?
Me:- I told you there was something wrong with my computer.. I took it in to the shop to be repaired.
Him:- fu**@ bar@@@** <<< and many other expletives..
Followed by him putting the phone down on me.
Me :D <<<<
A friend of mine has a stopwatch by the phone, and when he gets one calling him, he says, 'hold on there's someone at the door I brb.' He starts the watch and waits to see how long before they give up!
Thanks for choosing my answer as most helpful.
I have before honestly. I don't think it does any good besides wasting mine and their time. I guess the longer they are distracted with me the less time they can bug someone they may screw over.
I once had "US Customs" call me about a bunch of packages coming from Columbia. I kept it going to see just how much info they had on me. Turns out they had zip other than my name and number
I have and I find a lot of humour around it. But it never lasts long because the moment they want me to log into my computer and go to some random website, I refuse.
Info and I’ll be there!

Only sometimes when I know they can’t do anything.
I'm not afraid to, but I've always considered it a waste of my personal time. And worst case scenario, they're behind on their scams? How does that benefit me? It really only delays them getting to the next victim, it doesn't stop them. The next victim, whoever they are, are going to be gullible regardless if some dude wasted his (scammer's) time 3 weeks prior. So I'm like "Why?"
That said, I'm not against others doing whatever pleases them in this case. If you think it's fun, or beneficial, or whatever... Go for it. Have fun. I won't stop you.
A friend of mine once held a scammer on the phone for like 2 hours. The scammer pretended like he was "tech support" and my friend owned a business specifically related to IT and tech support. And the scammer called the main line for this business. Toward the end of the call, my friend started degrading the scammer, telling him he has a small peepee, that sort of stuff. Scammer was pissed, shouting obscenities in Hindi. It was a good time.
Yes sometimes I do. Pretty Asian girls with numbers from Hong Kong randomly text me by "accident" I've tried to like troll them a bit but it's never really worked out they just stop texting me or something like that. I think it's like a chatbot and maybe if the conversation doesn't turn to money after a while they just quit or I just didn't say the right words or something I don't know. They probably let the victims try and impress the girl with money by themselves so that it's more natural. And that's why they use bots so they can text as many people as possible to increase the rate of people that actually fall for it.
I mess around with every scammer that contacts me via online, text and phone calls. The last one I got, the guy wanted me to install 40 ceiling fans in 5 of his houses. I gave him an outrageous price. He said that was fine. He asked me if I accepted personal checks. I said that I only accept gift cards. He wanted to give me extra money so I can pay the shipper of the fans. I said I'll pay the shipper if he has the fans sent to my address. He said that wouldn't be possible because he is having them sent to each house. I told him to change the shipping address and when they were delivered I'll pay the fees, he hung up.
I've been getting a lot of these scams lately.
I found it. The best way to deal with phone scammers is to just put the phone down but not to hang up. They start getting really anxious and saying hello. Hello, hello and wasting a lot of their time. They eventually hang up but sometimes it takes quite a while. I figure for every minute they spend on the phone with me. That's a minute but they're not going to be trying to scam somebody else.
Yeah I've spent hours on the phone with them when I'm waiting on a response from someone at work so i'm just stuck in a holding pattern. Convinced one I was a conspiracy theorist who was on the run from the government, he had to call me back every hour and give me a passcode so "I knew it was him not a clone."
There was $50k of itunes gift cards at stake because i told him i converted all my money to that because in the zombie apocalypse there won't be any new music and people wanna jam out while steaking heads, so beans, bullets, and itunes gift cards were my entire ground floor.
I love to play along... the one I really want to do but haven't yet:
Scammer: "This is the police department, we have a warrant for your..."
Me: In my most redneck accent "hot damn! Mable they're comming fer us... get da guns! There's one der, light it up!" Lighting off a string of firecrackers. "Two down, brinvlg body bags you mudder..."
Poor forigner thinking he just got a couple of cops killed. Lol
I was warned that with AI. By a bill collecting attorney. You should avoid talking to these people. Since they can record your conversations and rework it to do bad things to you. Remember, not to say Yes. When speaking with them!
But you are right! It can be fun wasting their time and finding out how much snow is in Florida!!! LOL
Yes, i do it when i am bored. But, eventually, i start asking if they have told their grandmother that their job is being a scammer and a crook. That usually ends the call.
Yeah, I've played along with them. Usually they eventually ask for a gift card or money of some kind. I'll just keep the conversation going enough to see some pics lol. Never send a nude or personal info though. That's how they get ya. Usually ends with me saying sorry I'm not a simp, I don't pay for women's attention, which is true. I do wonder how many guys fall for it though.
Yes! I do ot all the time actually. There's this YouTuber called Kitboga and he's such a pro at it. I can't even hold a candle to his abilities but i still try to have fun with it
I have sometimes, it's not that amusing because they really try and convince you even if the jig has been up, but it can be funny sometimes.. LOL..
Definitely Paris.. Haha..
I answer the phone with "It's done, but there is blood everywhere..."
They usually hang up and dont call back...
Yes, several of them. Once I figured out what their ploy is on the first one or two, I'd just lead-on the rest. None of them got a penny out of me!
Thanks!! They were usually Russian or Nigerian "girls" (They COULD'VE been guys PRETENDING to be girls!). It goes like this:
You get an e-mail from them out of the blue telling you that they talked to you recently online in a chat room and they wanted to get to know you better. Within a day or two, they are madly in love with you and have decided to come to America to be with you and marry you! They send gorgeous pictures of "themselves" in sexy poses and clothes. Some of them will insert what looks like a blank white card to make it look like they are actually holding it up in front of them. Usually, a personalized message is "scrawled" across the card in magic marker but, it looks like the text was added after the picture was shot.
Next day, they talk about their plans to come see you. They're going to pack up that night and go to the airport the next day. They've told their family and all their friends about how wonderful you are and how incredible their life is gonna be once they meet you in person!
As their plane won't be leaving for a couple days, they have to stay with some older couple near the airport or they'll be staying with a retired policeman who has a spare room to rent.
They keep in contact, somehow (this, for me, was years before cell phones were the norm), and they tell you they went to the mall and bought you a present and they can't wait to give it to you!
Next day, they go to the airport to BUY their ticket and are told they don't have enough money to buy it! Mostly, because they spent too much money on your present which they refuse to return because it has a special meaning, now! It's always some bizarre amount they need, like $97.35, and they beg with you to wire it to their bank account over there so they can buy the ticket and come to see you. Well, if you're cutting all your ties and coming here to spend the rest of your life with me, why haven't you closed your bank account?
Of course, I refuse to send it so, they beg and plead because, if she goes back home, now, all her friends, family and work mates will laugh at her! Well, again, if you're cutting ties to come here, how do you still have a job to worry about them laughing at you?
A few weeks later, ANOTHER one chimes in and tries the exact same ploy!!
Now, if I could've just gotten my aunt to listen to me when I told her SHE was being scammed. She MIGHT still be alive and I'd probably be a millionaire, by now! They fucked her out of at least $11,000,000!!
I may waste time on here, but I'm not gonna waste my time responding to scammers. I don't encounter them very often.
Yeah some guy was trying to scam my Dad with the your-relative-needs-bail-money-so-buy-a-gift-card-and-tell-us-the-number scam. When he called back I pretended to be him and kind of played dumb until finally he got frustrated and hung up.
In my opinion it isn't unless you're absolutely sure about what you're doing. You never really know where it will lead you. Xx
I never answer the phone with spam calls. 🚫
eh, its funny how they'll chase even a smidge of attention. but it gets boring pretty quickly.
I just ignore scammers... why waste my time.
I have done this. Sometimes when I am watching TV I see how long I can keep them on the line
People that do that must be awful bored. I wouldn’t play around with a scammer. If they get pissed, they will find other ways to get at you
I do not play along with their games. If I find out they’re being insincere I leave and don’t look back.
When I get bored, sometimes I'll play with them. LOL
My favorites are the scam phone calls.
I took down one's network and data once when I was granted access.
Oh all the time, I've had them screaming at me, cursing me, threatening to kill me and my family.
Yup I love to mess with scanners.
Scammers**
Yes, I try to waste as much of their time as possible. So they don't scam others.
Nah I haven’t but there is this cool show on YouTube called Scammer Payback where they catch scammers
Online no
Phone scammers... yes any chance I get
I have literally kept phone scammers on the line for over 20 minutes while accusing them of not being IRS and pissing them off until they hang up... never call a bored, over caffeineed night shift guy
on the phone yes. Wise... no comment.
I try to get as much info as i can acting all dumb and shit to do the most damage when i have time plus they wasting their time on that probabily saves someone vulnerable to these scammers.
It's great fun 🤣🤣🤣
I did before
it was funny
Nah. I have no time for cons. 🤷🏽♀️
I’ve done this to a few peds
Yes it was good fun
