Why is there no DEL key on my SMARTPHONE?

My tablet has a DEL and backspace key. So does my laptop.

But my smartphone only has a backspace key, no DEL key, which is inconvenient... sometimes you want to delete the next character, not the previous one.

Does anyone know why that is?

Or maybe your smartphone has a DEL key?

The del key is reserved for larger format keyboards. You can probably go on Google for a while and find a keyboard to download from the appstore but you might be better off learning a pretty nifty trick most smartphones have.

Try pressing and holding on the space bar. Without letting go, slide your finger left or right to move the cursor.

Some keyboards will make the letters disappear or the phone vibrate to indicate you've held down long enough to activate cursor mode.

When you let go, everything goes back to normal and you can keep typing.

Oh my gosh. All of these years of having home computers, and I've never noticed that there is a "delete the next character" key until now. I see it. It says "delete->". I just tried it out and it is cool. Yeah I can see the use for it.

You have to move the cursor and then backspace. I don't know why.

Smartphone keyboards are small and already cluttered, especially in some other languages. Still, there is no point in having them anyway. You can easily slide across the space bar to move your caret quickly and with some more precision. Adding another button wouldn't save you that much time, it would just take more space.

Because it isn't half as smart as it is marketed. It is an idiotic device made for idiotic people... and sadly everyone is expected to have them now, to the point where many things (e. g. Paypal) are inaccessible without them.

Probably because there is a limited amount of real estate on a phone key board and one key can do both functions. Mind you that's only a guess!

And I think, there won't be smartphone exists with this key...
Further, can you use just back key to delete.

My Android phone has now delete key as well. It doesn't matter because I can always use the backspace key to delete anything I want.
