The pull chain that controls the speed and turns the ceiling fan on and off fell completely off. And I have no clue how to stop this thing without it. The problem is, I don't even know how to put the chain back on. One website said to flip the breaker that controls the fan, but that won't do any good, if I can't get the chain back on, because it'll only shut off the power to other things, and it'll just start spinning again when I turn it back on. How do I stop this thing without the chain?

I have some good news and I have some bad news. The GOOD news is, we got the fan off! The BAD news is, I won't be able to turn it back on

Like the website said, turn off the breaker that controls the fan. Uninstall the ceiling fan or get a friend to help you take it off. It's really easy to remove ceiling fixtures and there's probably a ton of YouTube videos on it. Stick some electrical tape over the ends of the wires and then you can safely turn the breaker back on to use other stuff (I just had an electrician out and I paid attention). Then, see if you can open it up to reattach the chain. If not, just get a new fan ($80 at Walmart for a Harbor Breeze).

Yeah... I'll just wait for my dad. I'm not doing all of that. I wouldn't even know which breaker to flip to turn off the fan
@KostasKouvalis I hear that!
When your dad gets there, maybe he can help you voltage check all the rooms in the house and get the breaker box properly labeled. You can also plug in a hair dryer or vacuum as you flip the switches in the breaker box to identify which switch powers what. Good luck to you.
I had this problem 5 years ago. The chain broke and shot up into the unit. The electrician could have turned the power off but he just caught with one arm and held it until he disconnected it. We replaced it with one with a remote but now never use it.
I'm not trying that.
I don't blame you. Ours was stuck on high.
You could try catching it with a comforter. Push the heavy blanket up into it. Keep your head well down.
Do you know how to disconnect wiring?
I don't know what that is.
The good news is, at least my blades are wooden, but even if I stopped the blades, I don't know how to reattach the chain.
I do not. And I don't know which one of our breakers controls the ceiling fan. I guess I'll just have to wait for my dad.
Sounds like that is the best idea
No idea yet I dislike their types of fans - I've watched too many films like Final Destination :( scary
Those not their typo 😞
