There’s many options and platforms, it’s partial to freedom of speech along with expression… or at least I suppose that all depends on your view on what social media is.
Elaborate and let’s have a fun healthy discussion!!!
Social media has succeeded where conventual print media failed - it gave the "small guy" a voice.
In the Before Times, only a rich or connected guy could get a spot in the media to speak or advertise. Social Media flipped that on it's head. Now practically anyone can print and advertise online for a far less cost.
Of course there is the expected drop in quality. But everyday conversations are not like print articles that need to be "brushed" and in cursive.
Social media could be a cool place where people could share ideas, hobbies, or find friends…. But it’s been hijacked by people who are paid to spread one idea or another. Then of course there has been a lot of censorship going on…. We have all heard about misinformation and hate speech… who determines what hate speech is or what’s misinformation?
Social media is now a tool for governments and people with bad intent.
It's being abused in the present day. I think it started off as an innocent way for kids to connect, but now it's become part of a massive marketing frenzy and is part of a multi-billion-dollar "influencer" industry based on utter nonsense. Social pressures caused by overuse of social media has led to a stark increase in anxiety and mental breaks among users.

Intended to share content, educate, and entertain. Being used for some of that but also used to : vent, be less bored, anxiety, needlessly compare, to be a troll and toxic and hurtful, to lie and cheat and abuse others.
Sadly my view is 20% positive and 80% negative. I support free speech but in my opinion use of sm as a % of our daily lives should be reduced.
It's intended for domestic spying by intelligence agencies and that's exactly how it is being used.
You don't remember 9/11 which gave rise to the Patriot Act which allowed domestic surveillance? Then you have Darpa projects like LifeLog that aimed to gather and analyze everything a person says, sees or does. Which ended development in 2004, and then was lunched as FaceBook under a false narative with an intelligence agent as the CEO. Welcome to reality.
I disagree
@BarryLiverstone The fact that you disagree with reality doesn't really matter. Reality rolls on. Everyone witnessed during COVID how ideas that disagreed with the central government narrative were censored and labeled as disinformation. People had their accounts frozen or banned based on what they were saying. The central government was gathering and analyzing information on everything people said, saw or did and then using the force of government to go after the citizenry. In places like the UK they are even going after them for criticizing the government now as well as anything they deem hate speech. Welcome to reality Barry.
@BarryLiverstone You are being watched...
Everyone’s being watched.. but the asker was on the topic of Social Media; which is diverse and not from a single source
@BarryLiverstone You're kind of slow... They are going after people for what they say on social media. The FBI is knocking on people's doors because of what has been said on social media. Everything I spoke about specifically has to do with social media. The GOOG is another DARPA project. You know it as Google, or Alphabet as in the Alphabet agencies (CIA, FBI, NSA). They run YouTube and a number of other sites., Don't you remember how all sorts of creators were monitored through algorithms, shadow banned, censored, silenced, and had their accounts frozen and banned? It's still happening every day. Meta which was FaceBook (DARPA project LifeLog) own Instagram, WhatsApp, Beluga (Facebook Messenger), Reels, Threads, Oculs, etc. The list goes on and on... Most social media companies have high level executives that "previously worked for" the CIA, FBI, or NSA and the founder is always some guy or guys with some bullshit cover story about a college drop out that started a business out of their garage as if any software developer has to work in their garage when they could just work at their desk in their house. They smear the bullshit on heavy in those stories. Only a moron would believe it.
Twitter was another one, but it was taken over by Elon. Now ask yourself where Elon got most of his money? Billions in funding through the military budget straight from the pentagon... Elon is on the other side the intelligence war... If you know about the National Reconnaissance Office, Space Force, and Military Intelligence in general then you will see where he fits in, but it's still government at the end of the day and magic eyes are still watching...
Who is “they”? Social media is international. Are there a select group of people worldwide who are doing all of this.
@BarryLiverstone Like I said you're real slow. I specifically told you intelligence agencies.
Intelligence agencies worldwide? It’s just hard to believe the agencies all work together and do this. Which agencies?
Bush put in place laws allowing domestic surveillance (intelligence gathering) and Obama put in place laws allowing use of propaganda on American citizens (counter intelligence). Collectively they started an information war against the American public. Social media is one weapon in that information war.
@BarryLiverstone You've never heard of Five Eyes (FVEY) or Interpol? Clearly intelligence agencies work together...
Oh ya, you are right. They are likely tracking this actual conversation. Well my name is Barry and I live in Florida. They know about me. So they know about you too
@BarryLiverstone Yep, that's the idea to be able to see everything. Social media persuades the citizenry to freely share information with them. Everything is tracked. Certain things are flagged, monitored, and investigated. Trends in population behaviors are monitored and counterintelligence is produced to shift group thinking. Welcome tot the matrix.
Well they already know your name and where you live, so might as well share like I did
@BarryLiverstone Ah the old Joseph Goebbels saying "if you have nothing to fear you have nothing to hide"... Is he one of your hero or something?
Remember that I am slow, never heard of him
But if you are scared; that’s ok bro
