Yea, and before calculators also. I don't think I ever used a calculator until I was an adult. I was around 20ish when I first used a computer.

In school I did all my math with pencil and paper. I could do pretty difficult arithmetic in my head - like square and even cube roots of 6-7 digit numbers. For most of my life I refused to use a calculator to do things that I could do without it. Then about 10-15 years ago I finally gave in and started using a calculator for easy stuff. Guess what happened? After a couple years I could no longer do math in my head.

You gotta keep the brain exercised. Using tech for everything isn't the way to do it. Use it or lose it.

By the way, I still don't use a cell phone except for the camera. I don't use GPS to find my way around. It amazes me how many young people don't even know the names of streets a couple blocks from where they live.

Yes, although I grew up with a computer, I clearly remember how life was more straightforward before smartphones became streamlined and people turned into screen addicted zombies or social media junkies.

I do not wish, that smartphones weren't invented but I do miss it when those glowing screens weren't almost literally commandeering humans. Socializing these days feels less "personal" than before.

I peeked over your posted Youtube Video.
It "reflects" the conditions I was brought into when my parents have forcibly relocated the whole family from stable and safe Germany to a country, that's a shithole, where everything's falling apart when I was just 15 years old. I have escaped from it alone and by myself and ASAP when I was 27 years old. My soul is crushed.

Hell yeah!! I lived that life for 13 years. Those were some of the best days of my life. Life was much simpler and I noticed every little thing around me. I used to appreciate things around me especially nature and would hangout with my friends often. Now we usually talk on phone and meet sometimes.

I still remember how my friends needed to get my mom because I fell from a tree from a great height and couldn't move... it wasn't close to our house... so it took her a lot of time... and then she needed somehow to get me home... I was 14 years old, so not a small kid anymore... and I barely could move...

today, she would simply call an ambulance... :D

I first used a PC and button mobile at the age of 10 (2005) and got my first smartphone at the age of 15.

I think children should be kept away from the internet, social media and smartphones until the age of 10. Before the age of 10, only a PC is enough.

The PC with the internet after 10. So that they can learn anything from the internet except social media.

I grew up on the cusp of the modern technology. I didn't have a cellphone until I was 13/14. Had dial up internet, but we rarely used the internet. I mostly played sims on the computer but only on a rainy day. Never really watched tv growing up either.

Yes I knew Life without Mobiles and PC's, BBC B's were just starting, built my own PC running Win3.1 then 95 mid 1996, bought my first Mobile late 1998 a Phillips Diga (a robust plastic brick of a phone) which I used until BT did not support it any more, then I shifted to a Motorola StarTac, and have stayed with them ever since.

I & my friends were almost feral and NO ONE knew WTF we were up to from sunup to sundown. I had a REAL childhood. The 80s hit different kids...

Much of my life was before cell phones and computers. I remember days of using a paper map to get someplace, and stopping at a gas station to use the pay phone. We all survived just fine.

Yes, in some ways it was better. I connected with people on a deeper level. However I was in a long distance relationship and cell phones, emails and video chat would have made it better.
