How often should you update your cell phones/tech?

So iPhone technology updates pretty often so I wonder how often should we be updating and upgrading our phones? Because I would think that New Age computers technology, all of that can be easily linked together or integrated well should we just improve on what we have

Depends what you do. For most home users, it will mean little. But for business users it could mean getting cut off from the network and being unable to access important files.

You should always setup a routine/macro monthly to do updates.

I had my last iPhone for 6 years before updating to a newer model. I usually hold a product until there is some talk that it will soon not be updatable, or if there is some newer technology that I am particularly interested in.

The old one was an iPhone 7 Plus.

When the current unit no longer functions. I used my SE 1st generation till last year when it would no longer hold a charge and the replacement battery was only $20 less than a new in the box SE 3rd generation (basically a 13 in a smaller footprint with a lesser camera.)

When there's a new update available..

I've had my phone for the past 6 years, it's probably gonna need to be replaced some time soon as it won't get any new updates, but as long as it works, should be fine.

Updating the software just goes automatically. I upgrade To a new phone every one to two years. Just depends. Apple gives pretty decent trade in rebates.

both my phones from 2020 and 2022 work pretty much alright, however my smartphones are not my primary device at all

I replace my smart phone when it reaches the point that it no longer works well. The last phone I replaced was 8 years old. My current phone is almost 4 years old and doing just fine.

I'm still using an old flip phone. When it dies I might get a smartphone of some type.

Exactly because software gets useless with new apps.
Cars can still last more then 5yrs if you take care of it
