I wrote this question because it happened to me. I was extremely lonely, working a lonely job, and couldn't meet anyone in person. I was on facebook trying to meet people. Facebook doesn't like it if you send out too many messages, or add too many friends. If you do these things too quickly, then facebook will tell you to slow down. Just as someone showed some interest in talking to me, the platform banned my account. Which leads me to think that facebook really hates lonely people.

I thought maybe by asking this question I could meet some more people that got banned from facebook.

... Personally, my conclusion, based on your description, is that FB hates bots annoying their user base, because an annoyed user is a user who's about to leave the network. They can't afford that, financially. To me, it's just that your behavior has been flagged as bot. Because it is what bots do, they add many people and send many messages in no time. I think it's not against you, you behaved like a bot, accidentally.

Then this event may have pushed a certain button within you, sending you the wrong message. A self-deprecating message, you are probably used to hear in your head.

I was extremely lonely. Chronically lonely, and feeling depressed. I had no friends in real life, and I needed to make some. Sending out messages of Hi, and adding people to my friends list too quickly got me banned.

I'm sorry to hear that. I had no idea there's a limit to people you could add or say Hi to. I did notice there were some guys who were in my Spam box and I had no idea why but then I saw all of them just sent "Hi" messages. So, maybe you should have tried adding something else.

To be honest, I think FB sucks. It's lame and interface is pretty bad. I don't think you're missing out much on it. If you use Instagram just try to say something interesting, funny or random... That way you'll most likely get a response as most people don't want to handle the pressure of carrying a conversation and they do get number of "Hi" messages everyday so you'll have to find different ways to get noticed if you ever want to try being friends with someone on social media.

I wish I had a dollar for every time I heard that suggestion. I would at least have more money. I have tried other methods and those methods don't work for me either. It takes a lot of time to type up stuff for someone that isn't going to respond anyways.

Plus none of the online friendships I had made, lasted any longer than a year on average. Most don't make it past a couple months. Some years, I go without anyone.

The reason you heard it many times because it's the truth. I get thousands of message request from random strangers and also messaged from friends and acquaintances every year. I rarely use FB and when I log in finally, I feel overwhelmed because I have no idea how to respond to all so I decide eventually to reply to some people who matters to me and if I have time to get to know someone, I respond to the ones that sends me interesting messages rather than the ones who send me Hi.

I know how tiring, upsetting and even annoying your experiences were but you know it's difficult to find like minded people or people who are poles apart yet you form really deep connections with. Just keep trying. You'll find some.

@genie23 I haven't been part of facebook since 2010, and when I think back about this, I still get extremely angry with the platform and the people. I know you mean well, but your suggestions just make me more angry, because I remember how frustrating it was to try to get women to talk to me. I mean there was times on the internet, that I would write whole paragraphs, and just get a one liner back. Or sometimes even worse, just one word back. After a good 17 years of it, you get pretty sick of it. And then to make things even worse, people try telling me to say more than just hi.

It is easier than you know. You wait until you get lonely enough to start reaching out to enough people, and the system will start telling you to stop doing so. If you don't stop for a few days, you will find yourself banned.

I'm sure it is but what can you expect from Facebook like truly? Not the first time they've done this, me included.
Sorry you had that experience though. Messaging a lot of people is very typical of bots that could be why it was flagged.

instagram will do it too. if they think you are sending out too many messages a day, or adding too many friends too quickly they will ban you.

I think I could. But I know with my emotions the way they are, I would just end up feeling hurt and getting banned again.
