10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

This is has been on my radar for a while to write but I also wanted to find some good jams to fill it out with, there are many options but I wanted to find the right ones that I would pick. So I went with ones that either had a great main lyric with no relation to the open road or a great bunch of lyrics that talked all about it. and this is in honor of the road trip that will happen on day with @StingRayxoxo

Do you want to go on the Ultimate National Park Roadtrip? for now we can dream with it by having a fun mix tape for it

1. Life in the Fastlane - Eagles (1976)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

Who know Joe Walsh was in the Eagles.. I sure did not. :) this is a great anthem I ignore all main lyrics and go for these over and over again with that amazing guitar

"Life in the fast lane
Surely make you lose your mind
Life in the fast lane
Life in the fast lane
Everything all the time
Life in the fast lane"

To me it is about grooving to the music and signing in the main lyrics

2. Here I Go Again - Whitesnake (1982)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

This is another song with a great main lyric that you can enjoy the songs flow and sing along

"Tho' I keep searching for an answer
I never seem to find what I'm looking for
Oh Lord, I pray you give me strength to carry on
'Cause I know what it means to walk along the lonely street of dreams
Here I go again on my own
Goin' down the only road I've ever known
Like a drifter I was born to walk alone
An' I've made up my mind, I ain't wasting no more time"

3. I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) - The Proclaimers (1988)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

This song is even harder to defend and it even talks about walking and being drunk lolz but for some reason a thousand miles and the flow of the song make think of it being a great road trip song

But I would walk 500 miles
And I would walk 500 more
Just to be the man who walks a thousand miles
To fall down at your door

4. Mr. Blue Sky - ELO (1977)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

This time I really don't have any excuse, nearly nothing about driving on here all I can give you is this

Sun is shinin' in the sky
There ain't a cloud in sight
It's stopped rainin' everybody's in a play
And don't you know
It's a beautiful new day, hey hey
Runnin' down the avenue
See how the sun shines brightly in the city
On the streets where once was pity
Mister blue sky is living here today, hey hey

It is about friendly blue sky's on the start of the journey and hopefully after every night another blue sky waiting for you every day until you get to wherever you are going

5. Don't Stop Me Now - Queen (1978)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

This one is another good one with a good flow but the lyrics kind of bounce all over the place, this to me is all about just moving forward and just having an unstoppable road trip

I'm a shooting star, leaping through the sky
Like a tiger defying the laws of gravity
I'm a racing car, passing by like Lady Godiva
I'm gonna go, go, go
There's no stopping me
I'm burnin' through the sky, yeah
Two hundred degrees
That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit
I'm traveling at the speed of light
I wanna make a supersonic man out of you
Don't stop me now, I'm having such a good time
I'm having a ball
Don't stop me now
If you wanna have a good time, just give me a call
Don't stop me now ('cause I'm having a good time)
Don't stop me now (yes, I'm havin' a good time)
I don't want to stop at all

6. The Great Adventure - Steven Curtis Chapman (1992)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

Ok, Ok, this is a Christian song and it does not shy away from it but … it is a powerful fun song and has a great flow and a strong lyric of traveling on adventure

Saddle up your horses
We've got a trail to blaze
Oh oh oh
Through the wild blue yonder of God's Amazing grace
Let's follow our leader into the Glorious unknown
This is the life like no other whoa whoa
This is the great adventure
Oh oh oh
Oh oh oh yeah, yeah
So come on, get ready for the ride of your life
Gonna leave long faced religion
In a cloud of dust behind
And discover all the new horizons
Just waiting to be explored
This is what we were created for, yeah

You say you got to be kidding me, but just listen to the song, it is totally about the flow of it

7. Me and You and a Dog Named Boo - LOBO (1971)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

This is a honest to goodness road traveling song, no defending here, I think it is a fun a playful trip with a dog named boo :)

Will power made that old car go
A woman's mind told me that so
Oh how I wish
We were back on the road again
Me and you and a dog named boo
Travelin' and livin' off the land
Me and you and a dog named boo
How I love being a free man
I can still recall
The wheat fields of St. Paul
And the morning we got caught
Robbing from an old hen
Old McDonald he made us work
But then he paid us for what it was worth
Another tank of gas
And back on the road again

8. Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf (1968)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

This is clearly another song and I would think an iconic one about road trips I don't really need lyrics here because this song speaks for itself :)

9. Everyday is a winding road - Sheryl Crow (1996)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

Soak up the sun could also work here but this is one that clearly has road in the lyrics lolz

I hitched a ride with a vending machine repair man
He said he's been down this road more than twice
He was high on intellectualism
I've never been there, but the brochure looks nice
Jump in, let's go
Lay back, enjoy the show
Everybody gets high, everybody gets low
These are the days when anything goes
Everyday is a winding road
I get a little bit closer
Everyday is a faded sign
I get a little bit closer to feeling fine

10. Life is a Highway - Tom Cochrane (1990)

10 Favorite Road Trip Songs

This is another iconic road trip song but this I will lay down some lyrics for you although it is more a metaphor for life and I stuck with the original version for this one :)

Life's like a road that you travel on
When there's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There's a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where the brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore
We won't hesitate, break down the garden gate
There's not much time left today
Life is a highway
I want to ride it all night long
If you're going my way
I want to drive it all night long
Through all these cities and all these towns
It's in my blood and it's all around
I love you know like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Mozambique to those Memphis nights
The Khyber Pass to Vancouver's lights
Knock me down get back up again
You're in my blood I'm not a lonely man
There's no load I can't hold
Road so rough, this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Tell 'em we're survivors

Until next time, Happy Travels Gaggers :)
