Why I Prefer to Stay In Silicon Valley over Living in New States

Here are 5 reasons why I prefer to stay in Silicon Valley over starting a new life in a different state

1. I Don't Want to Leave My Friends & Family Behind

If I lived in different state, I would miss my friends & family. As a result, I would have to deal with emotional pain of stress of living in different states. Thus, I would pass up an opportunity to live in different states so I don't leave my friends & family behind.

2. I Like Staying In My Comfort Zone

I prefer the sense of safety & security that comes with familiarity & routine. As a result, my mind would cease functioning due to extreme psychological stress that comes with leaving my comfort zone. Hence, I would decline an opportunity to start a new life.

Comfort Zone is Where I Prefer

3. I Don't Want to Deal with Culture Shock

I don't want to deal with the stress caused by culture shock from moving to new states. Therefore, I'm wiling to turn down job relocation offer to avoid stress caused by moving to a new state.

4. I Have No Desire for Personal Growth

I have no desire to broaden my horizon through immersing myself in a new environment. Hence, I'm willing to sacrifice personal growth that comes with immersing myself in a new environment.

5. Moving to a New State Would Cost Too Much Money

I prefer to spend my money on video games over moving to new states because video games are cheaper in the short & long run.

What Gives Me Pleasure

The 5 reasons listed above are sufficient reasons to decline moving to new states.

Silicon Valley is sooooooo expensive though. To live in the Bay Area is more expensive than to live in California as a whole, and California is already expensive! As soon as my sisters graduate my family is moving out of California because the state as a whole is overpriced, versus Texas has giant houses costing the same amount up front as tiny apartments cost in rent in a year in Silicon Valley.

Family and friends I can understand.

Change can also be good to see what other places are like and living in your comfort zone your entire life will bring you no new adventure.

I don't mean to sound harsh but don't focus all your time into one place because eventually Silicon Valley will be too expensive to live in and you might have to end up moving anyways. It's always good to keep an open mind. Thanks for sharing though!

But how do you afford it? I grew up in San Jose and it was a great place, but it has changed substantially, and short of being stuck with parents forever, I see no way someone can stay there. I have a friend - good job at Cisco Systems and all - who is living out of a camper.

Or you can do what many have done - move out to "the hinterlands" where you can afford a house, either make taxing long commutes back in or settle for a lower paying job, and you can reminisce with others about how Stevens Creek Boulevard or Blossom Hill Road used to be.

Then I hope you either own your home, or live with relatives who do. Rent/housing has gotten insane there.
