If I take an internship abroad in Europe, will I be lonely if I go alone? Or will it be as fun and party-like as advertised?

I have an option next year to take an internship in Belgium. I would go alone. It’s a great work opportunity and I really would love to get out to Europe, but I’m afraid it won’t be as I imagined it to be? Like when I look online I see people having the time of their lives, meeting locals and partying and experiencing so much. But then one of my friends said it wasn’t like that for her. She said she got super lonely and it wasn’t easy to just meet anyone. She said she made a couple friends but nothing where she went out and partied and had the time of her life. What’s realistic here/what should I expect?

No idea, really but, I can tell you that, when I got the job working the games at Cedar Point when I was 20, I was figuring it'd be a tad like Animal House but, for the entire 3 months that I was there, I was always alone and bored! I'd either sit in my tiny room and listen to music, run off to the Sandusky Mall for a few hours or take late night walks through the park after it closed and explore things like, The Fun House in the dark. Backgammon was all the rage, then so, I DID learn to play that! And, I got heavily into "Soap" because they were already showing re-runs of the first two seasons after the 11:00 news every night!

Remember that what you see on social media is only the good times, as people rarely show the bad times, and if you're not fluent in French you are going to have problems. Factor in that internship's pay little if any thing you will have problems with accommodation unless the internship comes with it as part of the deal.

Make the best of it, try different foods, look at different places and things to do etc etc
