As a Canuck who went on vacation there back in 2019, I say YES. For starters, it's a place that produced U2, Simple Minds, Genesis, Elton John, Pink Floyd, Duran Duran, Coldplay and the Beatles. Their infrastructure is superb and old. Their food is delicious. Their beers are awesome. Everybody is friendly and nice. And outside of London, Dublin and Birmingham (not sure of Glasgow or Cardiff), everybody is white and conservative and mainly British/Irish born. They've also had a Tory in office for the last decade or so. There is no Justin Trudeau in the British Isles either. Never was one.


A cool trend over there is those wool/flannel overcoats and peacoats that English/Scottish/Welsh/Manx (I mean Peoplex)/Irish guys wear. And cloth caps. And waistcoats/collared shirts. Neat!

To all English/Scottish/Welsh/Manx (whoops Peoplex lol)/Irish folks on GAG: You have no idea how lucky you are to have a government that cares about you, and protects you, and what a splendid way of life you have. Your culture is grand. Your people are friendly. And your women are beautiful and traditional. Don't visit, let alone move to Canada, you'd regret it!

The Brits have three things figured out: Whiskey, Race car driving, and Rock and Roll. For the first in traditional men's clothing, including shoes, they are unequaled. Automobiles: Aston Marin, Rolls Royce, Bentley- take you pick, because can't afford any of them!

The food is okay, but the weather, for the most part, is not to my liking. I'd have to winter in Spain. Which gets to money. It seems an expensive place to live. The houses all seem tiny and crowded together. I live in an 1800 sq foot home (168 SqM). Are homes of that size common? I never got far off the tourist track, so I don't know.

Just off the top of my head, to enjoy the same lifestyle I have in the States would cost double. Having only visited and never worked in the UK, I don't know what the wages are like or what type of pension awaits someone who retires from a government job like the one I had (supervising engineer for a mid-size city).

I'm more than happy where I'm at. As for Justin Trudeau, I'm no fan of Buckshot Joe Biden, but so far no one has pelted him with rocks!

It really is just the same as any other country. We hate the same things about our country as you do about yours. It's really hard as a tourist to get to see the real country. Do get me wirng I like my country but it's not as glamorous as you have seen it as.

As an English person, I'd say your image of the UK is overly romanticised. Our government is terrible and they certainly don't care about us.

However, Canadian culture seems bland. I'm not a huge football fan, but let's face it, ice hockey is shit compared to football. Canada from what I can gather seems to have become an authoritarian hell through covid. I don't think I could even open my mouth in Canada without getting arrested. PC, woke shithole.

The UK is not far behind.

I’m a Chinese American and I dislike the UK I don’t like the weather, food, buildings, accent, or people. The fact that they’re all white doesn’t appeal to me so much. I tried the food and it was expensive and not flavorful.

Canada probably sucks too but at least their way of speaking is more similar to America. I wouldn’t mind eastern Canada specifically New Foundland and Nova Scotia.
