Yeah, if you say "climb mount everest", climbing to tenboche & dingboche, which is the starting climb towards everest, also counts, so yeah we can easily climb it to some extent.

To the base camp i. e. Camp I Its also possible for trekkers with some experience, but with utter care since the ice fall is right above the base camp.

i can afford it and i think i'd like to go and hang out at base camp for awhile, but not actually climb higher, i think there are too many people there now to do it safely

No, its become a joke to climb Mt Everest. Too many climbers and no guarantee you will make it to the top. And deaths are quite common.

No not a chance I don't want to die or get frost bite. Plus you need to be extremely careful and skilled mountaineer which I'm not.
