:) Four years. I was in the Navy in Yokosuka, south of Yokohama and Tokyo. My wife and her family also lived there. I lived on the ship on the base, but she lived out in town and we often went around Japan and encountered those toilets.

You don't have to. All you've got to do is stand in front of the toilet like guys do, use a couple fingers to lift and separate your puss and let fly into the toilet. Practice it a few times in the woods to get the hang of it. Take a towel or a pack of Wet Ones. Once you learn how, just think of all the bar bets you'll be able to win (once you''re old enough to drink)!!

I've had a lot of practice with this and results are mixed. Sometimes I get a good stream and all goes well, other times it seems like a restriction causes pee to go everywhere like down my thighs and legs.

I have never known of any airline with squat toilets. It would require more room than a sit down toilet and that makes no sense. If you peed half standing in that situation you would have have pee dripping down both legs.
