For 11 mph over the speed limit?
That turns cops into predators whose job is to raise revenue. It's not about safety.
I rarely go the exact speed limit. I go a safe speed.
On open highways, I drive 8-10 mph over the posted limit because cops don't give tickets unless you are going faster than that or driving unsafely.
I do that partially because people who drive the exact speed limit or less on a one lane highway are pains in the ass. They hold up traffic and there is always a line of cars behind them. They actually cause accidents because people get frustrated and look for opportunities to pass.
On large highways with multiple lanes, traffic regularly move much faster than the speed limit. I always move along with the flow traffic, no matter how fast it is going.
I like the law on the autobahn, for example, that requires slower traffic to stay in the right lane.
I went to traffic school one time to get a speeding ticket removed from my record. There was a guy there who had gotten a ticket for going the speed limit on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles.
He had decided to set his cruise control to the speed limit and drive in the fast lane so that he could see how much time it would take him to get home. The freeway was apparently moving along well ahead of him, but his behavior had caused a miles long traffic jam behind.
A motorcycle cop finally caught up and discovered what the problem was. He gave the guy a ticket for impeding traffic.
The guy was furious. What an ASS HOLE!

I understand a system like that. But realistically I don't think fines make a difference. People who commit crimes think they won't get caught.
I don't know how it is in other countries, but in the US the real penalty for repeat driving offenses is a suspended license. Or a completely revoked license if enough points are gotten. If you get caught driving with a suspended or revoked license, it becomes serious and will result in jail time.
I really like the idea. It keeps rich people from ignoring laws just because they could pay the fine anyway. Also it even makes a difference if you earn 1000€ or 4000€ and poor people are not jailed anymore, for not being able to pay a comparably small fine for a small misdemeanor.
He knows from his first two instances and he still was dumb enough to speed? Just for that, it should cost that much.

The amount is crazy only because they based it off his income which is unusual but would never happen here. If that was based off my income back when I used to get speeding tickets, mine would’ve been really cheap. to pay since I hardly had any money back then
Yep, a fine should hurt, and prevent people from breaking the law. I do approve of finnlands way of adjusting the fine to the wealth.
Otherwise the rules don't apply to the richest people, who can just buy themselves out without feeling the punishment.Typical confiscatory government goon squad. It's like the "Fair Share" brigade.
Wow, that's pretty cool. The article did say that Finland slaps you with whatever amount related to your income, which is a really good idea and we should be doing that with celebrities over here.
There's also a case where some rich kid who went to Dubai once ticked off like 3 or 4 speed cameras racing down the road and he got $3,000 tickets for each one.
What's next... what you pay at starbucks based on what your income is? No, same crime same time otherwise justice is perverted.
It's Finland, where the cost of the ticket is based on how rich or poor you are. It's an interesting concept that some other countries have adopted.
That would never fly here thank god.. thats just egregious
that does seem a bit excessive...;
You actually believe Fox News?
Yes! I hope they keep that up!
That’s too much
sounds like he should just leave finland
No one's ever going to pay that!
