Whether he looks republican or not has nothing to do with it. Neither does his race. He is there to uphold the law, whatever the law is in your region. MOST places are zero tolerance for speeding in a school zone due to the risk to children. A school zone is between 15-25 mph depending on local law. Even if school is not in session, you still need to go the regular posted limit because for all you know an extracurricular activity might be taking place. Even when school is not in a typical session, most cops are not lenient to speeders in a zone due to potential damage to the school building if you wreck.
Even in a normal zone, going more than 20 mph over the speed limit could be considered reckless, depending on local law. Add the fact that you did this in a school zone and matters get worse.
You got off lucky. Speeding that much in a school zone could have landed you in jail. That officer was probably being as lenient as the law allows in your situation. Odds are he would have given you a warning if he was allowed to. However, the law works against the officer as well. If he lets you off with a warning and you speed in a school zone again and hurt someone then HE would be on the hook. Yes, even warnings are documented in police reports for the shift. Just because you do not receive any official consequences in a warning DOES NOT MEAN there is no documentation whatsoever.
As for whether or not the amount is excessive, that depends on the law, NOT what you consider fair. If that amount falls within the limits of the law, it is fair. The point of fines is not to be affordable, but to be painful enough to stop you from doing it again. If you are speeding enough to draw a cop's attention then you can obviously afford the consequences or else you would not have done it.
You were speeding so you earned the ticket. Do not blame the officer for your actions.

So you break the law and when a police officer doing his job like everyone else gives you a ticket he's now a republican conservative clown?
What does that make you if not entitled?
Just because you "asked" for a warning doesn't mean he owes you one, if his superiors told him to write tickets in the school district he's gonna have to do it.
There is a reason why lady justice is blind and deaf, because justice needs to be upholded like clockwork otherwise it stops being fair.
Not high enough if you ask me, should be at least a $1000 for a school zone. Your lucky though, your penalty would be much higher had you hit a kid.
Here it is $75 dollars per 1mph over the school zone limit, of 20mph so that would put the minimum fine (if you were going 45 not 50) at $1875 for you. Although you would not have got that much of a fine because at going more than 25 over in a school zone would of automatically suspended your license as the fine is a $1000 and no license.
High schoolers have been killed in school zones, in fact two girls were recently killed last year in a school zone.
Best to always follow the speed limit and not speed, otherwise you chose voluntarily to pay the fine.
They have 20 mph limits in school zones for a reason, some just when they have lights flashing. I remember a little girl that had her school papers blow out in the street and she ran into the street after them without looking. She was struck and killed because someone was exceeding the speed limit. Had they been driving at 20 mph they would have been able to stop or at least the impact would have been less severe. That is why fines are doubled in school and work zones as they have a lot of flaggers killed too by speeding drivers. You know that you were in the wrong. Own it!

Yes that is fair. Usually normal speed where I live in areas like that is 25-30 hours and as an adult you should know better about laws regarding near school areas. So you calling those cops names, doesn’t change the fact that you are an adult that knew better and decided to think you are above the law
Most School Zones I'm aware of, are between 15-20mph. If you were going between 45-50mph, you're looking at 25-35mph over the limit! That's beyond "speeding". That borders on reckless driving!
As crazy as that amount sounds, I'd just pay the thing and watch the road a LOT better in the future. I guarantee the judge is going to bring up the fact a kid could have been hit by you, and likely killed by you going that fast.
As for the cop writing the ticket, they're probably under requirements to write only full tickets for a school zone. School Zone Warning tickets are not allowed for that district, so the cop doesn't have a choice.Wherever I have lived, each state comes down hard on school zone speeder's. I think the speed limit is 25 and 15 MPH if children are present. They have cops watch closely around school zones and that's why you got caught so easily. They hide out on side streets or up in the trees where you can't see them. To be honest, I am glad you got caught and are being punished, because I bet now you won't be doing that again.
Sorry, but you’re one lucky SOB he didn’t arrest you or give you a higher ticket. I know I would if I were a cop.. You knew you were in a school zone… How would you feel if you hit and killed a kid? Guilty for the rest of your life. I hope you learn your lesson.
If you broke the posted speed limit, I have no sympathy for you, that you think 'He looked like a Republican/conservative clown' has no relevance.
By the way If you take this to court you'll most likely loose (then majority of contested speeding cases do) and the fine will probably be increased and the Judge could tack other punishments on to the original fine, but will probably settle for increasing the original fine, I could be wrong as it has been awhile since I dealt with the American Legal System.45 to 50 in a school zone that was probably 15 mph. I think it's very fair. Maybe you'll think twice next time and not run down any kids in the future.
The officer us nit a clown... he's doing his job.
You were going 20-25 mph over the limit in a school zone, which can put children at risk. Get off your high horse and pay the fine. Ir would you rather pay more than that to your lawyer to try to get you off?
Yiur lawyer will gladly take your money, and then when you have to pay the fine anyway, will tell you that judges don't like speeding in a school zone.Imagine what the expenses WOULD HAVE BEEN had you injured or killed children.
Their parents would have demanded a jury trial and even IF you missed doing jail time,
the civil awards (and guilt) have robbed you of EVERYTHING you own or will had owned!
In retrospect, ask yourself, "WHAT THE HELL was THAT urgent?"
Your Ego was writing checks that your probable negligence couldn't afford to cash! ~Man that’s a no no. What you mean conservatives dude , I don’t think protecting your kids is political that has no bearing on the law. I’m not a fan of the law , they have their purpose though , and that’s one of the better ones watching out for the kids. Ticket shoulda been higher you got off easy I’m bettin. If you’d have hit a child you wouldn’t be worried about that ticket. Thankfully that didn’t happen. Do better man.
pay attention and you won't get a ticket.
usually in our state it is 15mph.
So you were going 35 to 40mph too fast, and most states have special multipliers for school zones, construction zones or failure to move over and slow down for emergency vehicles.
So sadly it is most likely the correct amount.
Sometimes if you go to court it is possible to get it reduced, it maybe worth a shot. Will you do it again? It’s high for a reason.
I had three cars pass me at 45 while kids were present. A motorcycle cop pulled over all three, and nodded at me as I rode on.Well look at it like this, the government just wants their damn money, just like every other thug on this Earth. So, what can you do? Get money. How do you do that? Go to the parents of those kids and sell them some damn $444 kid leashes or something.
You go ahead and plead not guilty. Fight it out in court, ask for a jury of your peers. When all is said and done, you'll pay the fine, pay your lawyer, and you should lose your license for 90 days. This might be the right time to look up what speed does to the body of a child when they've been hit by a vehicle. I can tell you from experience, it ain't pretty.
School zones are absolutely no joke. You take out a kid? Society will eat you alive. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, my guy.
You were going that fast and endangering children. The speed limit in a school zone is 25. Where I live anything 20 miles over the speed limit is considered to be endangerment and he has the option of taking your dumb ass to jail. Suppose you had hit a child. Is it worth that kids life to save yourself the minute of driving time?
Pay the fucking fine and then stop driving until you can be a grown up you asshole.School zones typically have speed limits between 15 and 25 mph. You were going at least 20 over the speed limit.
Dude you were in a school zone, a lot of kids need to cross the street. You could've killed someone, it's your fault and you're the clown here.
Why were you speeding in a school zone? Fair, or unfair isn’t even the issue! How would you have felt if you hit a child with your car?
Years ago I lived in Las Vegas and back then they had an absolute zero tolerance for any traffic violations in a school zone! I wish everyone everywhere would do the same!
School zone is generally 25MPH. You’re going 50? That’s reckless dude. Pay more attention. Thank god you didn’t hit anyone.
