I just got a ticket for speeding in a school zone for a ridiculous $444 dollars, is that fair or too exclusive?

Whether he looks republican or not has nothing to do with it. Neither does his race. He is there to uphold the law, whatever the law is in your region. MOST places are zero tolerance for speeding in a school zone due to the risk to children. A school zone is between 15-25 mph depending on local law. Even if school is not in session, you still need to go the regular posted limit because for all you know an extracurricular activity might be taking place. Even when school is not in a typical session, most cops are not lenient to speeders in a zone due to potential damage to the school building if you wreck.
Even in a normal zone, going more than 20 mph over the speed limit could be considered reckless, depending on local law. Add the fact that you did this in a school zone and matters get worse.
You got off lucky. Speeding that much in a school zone could have landed you in jail. That officer was probably being as lenient as the law allows in your situation. Odds are he would have given you a warning if he was allowed to. However, the law works against the officer as well. If he lets you off with a warning and you speed in a school zone again and hurt someone then HE would be on the hook. Yes, even warnings are documented in police reports for the shift. Just because you do not receive any official consequences in a warning DOES NOT MEAN there is no documentation whatsoever.
As for whether or not the amount is excessive, that depends on the law, NOT what you consider fair. If that amount falls within the limits of the law, it is fair. The point of fines is not to be affordable, but to be painful enough to stop you from doing it again. If you are speeding enough to draw a cop's attention then you can obviously afford the consequences or else you would not have done it.
You were speeding so you earned the ticket. Do not blame the officer for your actions.
So you break the law and when a police officer doing his job like everyone else gives you a ticket he's now a republican conservative clown?
What does that make you if not entitled?
Just because you "asked" for a warning doesn't mean he owes you one, if his superiors told him to write tickets in the school district he's gonna have to do it.
There is a reason why lady justice is blind and deaf, because justice needs to be upholded like clockwork otherwise it stops being fair.
Not high enough if you ask me, should be at least a $1000 for a school zone. Your lucky though, your penalty would be much higher had you hit a kid.
Here it is $75 dollars per 1mph over the school zone limit, of 20mph so that would put the minimum fine (if you were going 45 not 50) at $1875 for you. Although you would not have got that much of a fine because at going more than 25 over in a school zone would of automatically suspended your license as the fine is a $1000 and no license.
High schoolers have been killed in school zones, in fact two girls were recently killed last year in a school zone.
Best to always follow the speed limit and not speed, otherwise you chose voluntarily to pay the fine.
wow, he got off easy
They have 20 mph limits in school zones for a reason, some just when they have lights flashing. I remember a little girl that had her school papers blow out in the street and she ran into the street after them without looking. She was struck and killed because someone was exceeding the speed limit. Had they been driving at 20 mph they would have been able to stop or at least the impact would have been less severe. That is why fines are doubled in school and work zones as they have a lot of flaggers killed too by speeding drivers. You know that you were in the wrong. Own it!

Yes that is fair. Usually normal speed where I live in areas like that is 25-30 hours and as an adult you should know better about laws regarding near school areas. So you calling those cops names, doesn’t change the fact that you are an adult that knew better and decided to think you are above the law
25-30 mph**
Maybe spending that much money on a ticket will get you to think about others for once next time. Being selfish seems to be a consistent thing for you.
@kyleelyn199723 Its true. I see this guy all the time talking about how he doesn’t have to obey the authorities and things like that.
Then he’ll complain about the consequences for people who choose to break the law
@WhiteBoyChill yep he has selfish stances and only cares about himself. Then he tried to justify it with “well it was a high school area” so uhhh you are a grown ass man that can’t respect laws and then on top of it he thinks it’s justified because the students are older than 5? People like him don’t learn until they are thrown into jail. If I was a cop knowing he had this kind of attitude, he would be getting arrested.
@kyleelyn199723 If you ask me the cop was being way too nice that day. I really don’t like this man’s entitled attitude
@WhiteBoyChill I am 100% sure he didn’t dare to tell the cop to his face that he is a “conservative republican clown” either, just an entitled brat that throws self pity parties alone when he doesn’t get what he wants in life. Going double the normal speed limit and still insisting he doesn’t deserve a lengthy ticket 🙄 I’m sure he will plead not guilty and I hope the judge rips him a new one for his entitled behavior
@kyleelyn199723 The worst part about it is when I’m speeding its only usually 5 above and sometimes 20 on the highway.
But to be pulling that sh*t in a school zone is the exact thing that gets people killed.
But I guess he doesn’t care that much after all
@WhiteBoyChill I’m sure he’s the type to see dollar signs all over a situation when someone hits him due to them not following the law though. I hope he keeps this same energy if someone ever hits him or his car due to them not obeying the law
To your update: how on gods green earth is your lawyer going to justify you speeding twice the speed limit? Honestly, I hope if the judge lowers your ticket price , they tack something else on to remind you that being entitled is the worst personality trait you can carry.
The cop can't prove I was going over the school zone limit. He has no evidence of it. I plea not guilty.
My word against his.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy uhhh if he has no proof, then how on earth can he set your ticket to the price he did? They do have proof. This is just you being an entitled man child brat
He can do whatever he wants. In this country you must prove guilt. I will not plea guilty, period. It's my right.
* I will plea not guilty
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy yes it is your right, however if the cop really cared to testify against you, that is his right and he DOES have proof. You remind me of myself at 18 when I got my first ticket. I plead not guilty and they hit me with community service instead. I honestly hope that happens to you, since you come off as a 35 year old entitled teenager
What proof he has? You wasn't there so quit assuming.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy do you think cops are that stupid where they don’t document who they give tickets to? Stop being a man child and admit to your wrong doings. Jesus Christ.
I have a right to legally dispute my charges. Lawyers in this country will fight for me. I will pay a lawyer a small fee and he or she will deal with it.
$444.50 for speeding is unreasonable and I'm not going to let them take me for a sucka like that.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy where did I say you don’t have a right to dispute it? The bottom line is that $444.50 is well deserved on your part and I hope they make you do community service in exchange since your action is do to lack of care for anyone else around you, especially children. You should be ashamed. 35 year old man and you don’t care about others. Your mother should be ashamed for raising such.
Due to lack*
Look, don't get disrespectful about my mother.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy I didn’t get disrespectful about your mother, I got disrespectful about how she raised you, because you have entitled brat energy at the age of 35. Something is wrong there.
You're being disrespectful to my mother. Hell off.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy nope I am just treating you how disrespectful entitled shit holes needs to be treated. You entitled people NEVER learn and the nerve of you to make a post regarding the cop as if he is the asshole in this situation. The nerve
In the eyes of the law, if the officer saw you speeding, then his word takes precedence over yours. Most likely recorded you and clocked you as well. You asking for a warning gives verbal admission that you were speeding. You have no case.
@not_average he knows he got caught red handed, he just wants to be a man child and justifying it with saying it was a “high school” as if that matters and even then he has no regards to who he could’ve been running over with his speed (a high schooler, a pregnant mother, a teacher, a pregnant teacher, a high schoolers sibling/child, a pregnant high schooler, etc) just absolutely pathetic excuse of a person to insinuate a cop is an asshole for doing his job.
@kyleelyn199723 After having read this, I think its finally occured to me why the man is still single and not married.
@Hispanic-Cool-Guy Honestly a real man would’ve just admitted he’d done wrong. It’s childish to play those games.
@WhiteBoyChill any mature grown adult would admit they have done wrong if they were going 25 or more over the speed limit and got caught. He’s just being a whiney baby per usual.
Most School Zones I'm aware of, are between 15-20mph. If you were going between 45-50mph, you're looking at 25-35mph over the limit! That's beyond "speeding". That borders on reckless driving!
As crazy as that amount sounds, I'd just pay the thing and watch the road a LOT better in the future. I guarantee the judge is going to bring up the fact a kid could have been hit by you, and likely killed by you going that fast.
As for the cop writing the ticket, they're probably under requirements to write only full tickets for a school zone. School Zone Warning tickets are not allowed for that district, so the cop doesn't have a choice.
Wherever I have lived, each state comes down hard on school zone speeder's. I think the speed limit is 25 and 15 MPH if children are present. They have cops watch closely around school zones and that's why you got caught so easily. They hide out on side streets or up in the trees where you can't see them. To be honest, I am glad you got caught and are being punished, because I bet now you won't be doing that again.
Just imagine if he ran over somebody. It would’ve been awful
If you broke the posted speed limit, I have no sympathy for you, that you think 'He looked like a Republican/conservative clown' has no relevance.
By the way If you take this to court you'll most likely loose (then majority of contested speeding cases do) and the fine will probably be increased and the Judge could tack other punishments on to the original fine, but will probably settle for increasing the original fine, I could be wrong as it has been awhile since I dealt with the American Legal System.
Sorry, but you’re one lucky SOB he didn’t arrest you or give you a higher ticket. I know I would if I were a cop.. You knew you were in a school zone… How would you feel if you hit and killed a kid? Guilty for the rest of your life. I hope you learn your lesson.
45 to 50 in a school zone that was probably 15 mph. I think it's very fair. Maybe you'll think twice next time and not run down any kids in the future.
And you are lucky he didn't arrest you and inpound your car. 20ph over the speed limit they are aloud to arrest you. But you got a ticket instead. You should be thankful he didn't use the full scale lengths of the law against you.
notice anything that requires responsibility it is a Republican. Typical liberal , always wanting new laws for others then wants to break laws. Next he will say it was racism , white cop going after a PR because he was speeding. Probably has tented windows.
I know @888theGreat. It's so ridiculous. I hope the judge see's his attitude about the ticket and teach him a lesson.
The officer us nit a clown... he's doing his job.
You were going 20-25 mph over the limit in a school zone, which can put children at risk. Get off your high horse and pay the fine. Ir would you rather pay more than that to your lawyer to try to get you off?
Yiur lawyer will gladly take your money, and then when you have to pay the fine anyway, will tell you that judges don't like speeding in a school zone.
Imagine what the expenses WOULD HAVE BEEN had you injured or killed children.
Their parents would have demanded a jury trial and even IF you missed doing jail time,
the civil awards (and guilt) have robbed you of EVERYTHING you own or will had owned!
In retrospect, ask yourself, "WHAT THE HELL was THAT urgent?"
Your Ego was writing checks that your probable negligence couldn't afford to cash! ~
Man that’s a no no. What you mean conservatives dude , I don’t think protecting your kids is political that has no bearing on the law. I’m not a fan of the law , they have their purpose though , and that’s one of the better ones watching out for the kids. Ticket shoulda been higher you got off easy I’m bettin. If you’d have hit a child you wouldn’t be worried about that ticket. Thankfully that didn’t happen. Do better man.
pay attention and you won't get a ticket.
usually in our state it is 15mph.
So you were going 35 to 40mph too fast, and most states have special multipliers for school zones, construction zones or failure to move over and slow down for emergency vehicles.
So sadly it is most likely the correct amount.
Sometimes if you go to court it is possible to get it reduced, it maybe worth a shot.
Will you do it again? It’s high for a reason.
I had three cars pass me at 45 while kids were present. A motorcycle cop pulled over all three, and nodded at me as I rode on.
sweet!
Well look at it like this, the government just wants their damn money, just like every other thug on this Earth. So, what can you do? Get money. How do you do that? Go to the parents of those kids and sell them some damn $444 kid leashes or something.
You go ahead and plead not guilty. Fight it out in court, ask for a jury of your peers. When all is said and done, you'll pay the fine, pay your lawyer, and you should lose your license for 90 days. This might be the right time to look up what speed does to the body of a child when they've been hit by a vehicle. I can tell you from experience, it ain't pretty.
School zones are absolutely no joke. You take out a kid? Society will eat you alive. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes, my guy.
It was a high school. The crime doesn't fit the punishment. $400 dollars is a lot of money.
Human life is more valuable than any dollar amount.
Better pick up an extra shift, I guess.
@Prettygurl12 he doesn’t see it that way. Entitled people only care about themselves
I wonder if he stops when buses have stop sign out? You can lose your license here for that. They could have made him ride tricycle in traffic school.
You were going that fast and endangering children. The speed limit in a school zone is 25. Where I live anything 20 miles over the speed limit is considered to be endangerment and he has the option of taking your dumb ass to jail. Suppose you had hit a child. Is it worth that kids life to save yourself the minute of driving time?
Pay the fucking fine and then stop driving until you can be a grown up you asshole.
School zones typically have speed limits between 15 and 25 mph. You were going at least 20 over the speed limit.
Dude you were in a school zone, a lot of kids need to cross the street. You could've killed someone, it's your fault and you're the clown here.
Why were you speeding in a school zone? Fair, or unfair isn’t even the issue! How would you have felt if you hit a child with your car?
Years ago I lived in Las Vegas and back then they had an absolute zero tolerance for any traffic violations in a school zone! I wish everyone everywhere would do the same!
School zone is generally 25MPH. You’re going 50? That’s reckless dude. Pay more attention. Thank god you didn’t hit anyone.
You made two mistakes:
1. You sped in a school zone.
2. You asked for a warning which is basically an admission of guilt. Good luck fighting that in court.
This is one of the reasons I don't drive. I have a pathological distrust of police.
I’m as loose as anyone with speed limits on the highway, but in school or work zones I have no sympathy. Sounds more than fair to me
Consider yourself lucky, you got nailed going that fast in a school zone here you’d lose your license
Pay it and write it off as a lesson. If you were 5 over I can sympathize, but you were doing at least double the speed limit in a school zone. Even you can’t be that stupid to think you aren’t in the wrong here
And how much is a lawyer gonna cost? Hell of a lot more than the ticket I guarantee
Lawyers here in Miami, charge a fee and they will do the paperwork where you don't have to pay the ticket. I'm going next week.
What exactly is your defence on this? You were doing double the speed limit in a school zone. You’re 35, grow the fuck up, pay it, and maybe learn something
I don't have to pay it, why should I give $444 when I can give a small fee to a ticket office and be OK.
Because you deserve it
Only a fool and sucka will pay such amount.
It’s $400, how broke are you?
I can pay it, I just don't think I should. It's too excessive. Feel free to give your money away.
No, $400 for going double the limit in a school zone is more than generous. You’d lose your license instantly doing that here
Much cheaper than if you hit a child or someone's car picking up their kid. Without laws to prevent accidents, we can just run you over and ram your house without even getting a warning.
Don't know what republican has to do with it... But then as a kid I also used to say new words I didn't know the meaning of.
Will you think twice before going that fast in a school zone again?
In my state I got a ticket for something I did not do. I disputed it in court and got it dismissed. If the cop had you on radar there is probably not much you can do but you can try.
Laws are laws , better than hitting a kid and cleaning the kid's brain off your bumper. Obey the law and you don't get tickets. I have never gotten a speeding ticket. I stop at signs.
Did you ask him if he voted for Trump? Amazing that Trump gets blamed when some is caught speeding
If I had my way I would ban from driving... Period.
Just be glad that you are still walking around and not in jail with your license shredded.
womp womp. If it was my kid you hit, you'd be paying more than $400.
School zones usually have double the fees. It is steep in Texas. They have speed traps everywhere around me
Personally I'd shoot you for endangering my kid's life. First offence would only cost you your knees.
You got off pretty easy, IMHO. School zone fines are excessively high for a reason, safety. Some places would consider 20+ over as reckless endangerment.
School zone speed limits are usually 25. You were going double that. Seems pretty fair to me. Instead of insulting the judge, maybe you should man up and admit you were in the wrong?
It's 15 in this area.
Yeah, that’s speedy in a school zone where 20 is usually the limit. Especially if school was in session.
But courts will be merciful and work with you on $ if that’s the issue.
bruh i hate children too but you can't just rum them over,
Do you have children? I have a daughter and speeding in a school zone is horrible. Kids died at my daughters high school, crossing the street.
“He looked like a Republican/Conservative”. You just had to throw that in there because only you are allowed to judge.
Once you go to court you may be able to plead to a lesser charge and avoid points. But it most likely would cost more
speeding in a school zone is pretty nuts. first ticket?
First ticket ever I got.
well based on the laws in most areas he still went really easy on you, they cuda taken your car away for speeding in a school zone
The guy was being way too f*ckin nice if you ask me.
That’s a little low ticket amount. School zones are 15 mph. Who cares their political affiliation?
You were lucky you didn't kill anyone. Try to learn from the experience.
just don't speed. especially in a school zone where there is little kids.
It’s usually a few hundred these days, they even have cameras on the bus if you pass a school bus and get a huge ticket in the mail, you can probably plea bargain it to something less though
Be happy you're not in Switzerland, they issue speeding fines based on income... highest on record was $1.07M
I am sure you knew the law, so you did it to yourself
Nope he was a Democrat Honoring Biden who taking all American money
Fight it, go to court, hire a lawyer
I did. I paid a law firm $80 bucks today and they told me I wouldn't have to pay the whole amount, but there's a 50/50 chance the judge might add another $120 if they feel like it. But with my driving record being clean I have a very good chance it gets thrown out.
All the best
Thank You. 👍👍
Thanks for like! And of course drive safe and follow rules. Check if there is traffic school option for you.
You're in US, right?
Which state?
Florida.
Got it.
Wow, you're going to have to mow a lot of lawns to make that money back
Did you know that you were in a school zone?
Yes.
Cities use school zones as money makers.
Fair. Running over kids is very bad.
you didn't run any kids over i guess
being lucky isn't something to be proud of
@007kingifrit that was a blessing
Is not a life worth more then $ 444?
Clearly the officer was a pedophile
... really dude?
Judge might lower it
Should be more
