Because if you're a tourist in Turkey, it feels like everyone is out to scam you. I have no respect for people who lie, cheat and deceive. It might not bother me as much if it was Atheists doing this, but it's practicing Muslims. One thing I hate more than liars and thieves is hypocrites.
Also, your president is a fanatical Islamist. I've been to Turkey, and if Turkey is the LEAST backwards Muslim country, than the others must REALLY be backwards, because even in Antalya there was gender/nationality segregation and some places that don't serve alcohol. I've gone into shops were workers refused to conduct business with the oposite sex. And airport security wouldn't screen the opposite sex. The nationality segregation wasn't straight forward, but it was obvious that they want tourists to stay in the "tourist" areas. A lot of Turks are also extremely nationalistic and always play the victim. "Turks saints. Turks never did anything wrong. It's not US it's KURDS!" Seriously, it's annoying.
Also, I got dihareah from your shitty, bland, dry unclean food. Turkish food in the West is MUCH better than Turkish food in Turkey.
I also thought it was extremely ignorant how you people automatically assumed we were Russian.
Oh, NOW do you understand?

Turkey isn't spoken about much in the U. S. So, what little reputation you have is from the Turks who are the loudest online.
The Turks on Instagram are mostly uneducated jerks. They don't even know which part of their country is in Europe and which is not part of Europe making it the Middle East by default. When people don't know such simple facts about their own country and throw temper tantrums when every available academic source confirms this fact, they sound rude, uneducated, and obnoxious. Then, they assumed everyone in the Middle East are Arabs, and that's why they can't be in the Middle East... more ignorance. Not to mention the insults I had to deal with while citing around 20 sources as well as the treaty your own country signed designating which area was European and which area was not anymore. Most of the country is not. That one conversation put Turks in an incredibly negative light.
Then, one of the rudest and most racist people I've ever spoken to online was a Turk who started screaming I should be ashamed of who I am because my ancestors were slave dogs... unlike his wonderful Balkan ancestors... He never even asked what my heritage was, he just assumed. On top of that, he defended high teen pregnancy rates in the area and in eastern Europe stating that girls are meant to be pregnant as soon as they are able.
The only good example of a Turk I've ever seen is the one a girl I went to high school with married. He seems very reserved and sweet based on her posts about him. Never spoken to him though so who knows?
I don't consider Turkey to be a bad country, but I am not interested in Turkey because it's had a homogenous culture for so long and there is not a lot of diversity in the country and I believe the flavour of travel and pleasure is diversity. My example for this is that in Canada, you can visit restaurants that produce foods from all nations and cultures and demographics at all levels of income whether high or low. In Turkey, there is less variety in culture and media and personal experiences.
People I know have visited turkey have had a great time. I would like to see archaeological sites as they are the oldest. Early European Farmers were from Anatolia so we are all hail from Turkey to a degree.

In the name of honesty, I'm answering, so please don't take offense. The truth is, I don't know anything about Turkey except... I dunno... Hagia Sophia and that Istanbul was Constantinople... why they changed it, I can't say (people just liked it better that way?) 😂
Why isn't it on my travel bucket-list? Maybe out-dated impressions, but I think of it as a place with a lot of coffee and cigarettes, and I hate being around second-hand smoke. Perhaps this is incorrect or it has changed, but that's the stereotype I am fighting in my brain when I think "Turkey."
However, I have hired Turkish artists and was very pleased with their professionalism and results, I have friends of Turkish descent, and I really have no complaint about my limited experiences in those cases. So, why indeed?I didn’t know that Americans thought badly about Turkey., I was there for a brief couple of days and the food there was so delicious i still can’t stop thinking about it. And it’s been almost a year since then haha
I've never judged anyone from Turkey on here. I love all people, no matter where they're from.
Praise Mustafa Kemal Atatürk for the freedom you enjoy

“You are very prejudiced against turkey, it makes me sad”.
Who’s “you”?UK here. To be clear I don't dislike you because you were born in a shithole country with a totalitarian government. That's something neither of us asked for.
Ask an Armenian.
