What are some places in the U. S. and Canada where you can base yourself and see a lot without a car?

This is taking into consideration getting to the base point. So either being able to fly there, or being able to get there from the nearest airport for under $100. Then once you're there, you can visit a lot attractions, both there and further afled without a car.

The U. S. and Canada are notorious for being difficult countries to explore without a car, but I know a few places and have been to a few already, but I want to see if people know some other places.

Basically you'd be getting around on bike, foot, public transport (including ferries) or with organized tours. Private taxis can also be utilized, but rates have to be reasonable. No day tours over $150, and public transportation and taxis ranging from 0 to 30 dollars.

Canada:
Toronto for sure. Vancouver and Victoria in BC. Montreal and Quebec City in Quebec. Most others are kinda hard without a car. Even for major cities such as Halifax, Edmonton, Calgary. You can see stuff but if you really wanna explore and enjoy, a car would be best.

USA is pretty forgiving in terms of enjoying places without a car. Especially major cities. NY, Chicago, San Francisco.. as long as you’re willing to take public transit.

Well gonna comment on Canada, anywhere I’ve been in the states was definitely not transit friendly. MAYBE New Orleans, but you’re pretty much limited to the old downtown before before ending up in the ghetto and places you don’t wanna be. Suppose NYC but never been there

Toronto - doable, but can’t imagine why anybody would wanna go there on purpose. Hated it every time I’ve been there. Montreal and Quebec City, again doable and there’s some cool stuff to see if you can tolerate the locals. The French are CUNTS.
BC - Vancouver and Victoria have best public transit anywhere I’ve been, with buses to interior, Whistler, regular & cheap ferries to several other spots on the island and buses between those. The east coast is very cool but spread out so renting a car is pretty much required, if trying to get around without I’d say west coast. Biased because I live here 😁 but feel free to ask questions if that’s what you decide

I was thinking New Orleans and NYC too, but they're dangerous cities and NYC seems too stressful and not relaxing at all.

Toronto does have some cool stuff, but I've heard many bad things about it and if the airport staff reflects the general population, I want to steer clear.

I've been to Quebec City, Quebec City was a good one. Was considering visiting Montreal, but no longer do. French LIBERALS are cunts! Quebec City people were actually very pleasant and wonderful, but I saw a video of some Montreal men dumping paint on a female reporter who they didn't agree with, and they were proud of it. So fuck Montreal! But Quebec City was lovely.

I've been to both of those, as I have family in Vancouver. We usually had a car, but a couple times me and my cousin took public transportation. I don't know if it's the "best", but the skytrain, water taxis and busses were all good. The skytrains are really cool.

Yeah, that's sort of where I was getting at. There are parts of the U. S. that have some really cool places, but they're too spread out.

East coast has metro you can use to get around cheaply and it's fairly low wait times (<15 mins).

You could try that direction and stay at hostels
