I'm always hearing the extremes going back and forth. Men don't approach any more, men don't want relationships anymore... men always hit on us, men are horndogs, men only want one thing, quit objectifying women, men are always staring at us,... where are all the good men, I went out and no one approached me, men don't act like gentlemen anymore, they won't open doors, give up their seat on a bus, help a woman in trouble,... I haven't flown for years. But when I did I usually bought at the last minute, maybe even the day before. But you can't have a fixed date in mind when you do that. I was somewhat flexible, so I didn't care which exact date it was.

Shortly before the flight, the airlines want to fill any vacant seats, so they will deeply discount last minute seats. I used to do that every year around Christmas.

I know for a fact that my parents have booked and paid the deposit for a holiday back last October, for this coming September... I seem to remember my mother telling me just a few weeks ago that they have saved themselves something approaching £1500 by booking so far in advance.

I book, if possible, 1 to 2 months in advance. That way the price is lower and you get your pick of almost any seat on the plane. That includes 1st class, though you may have to pay a slight upgrade charge.

I have not been on a plane since before 9/11 happened but I used to buy them a couple of weeks in advance. At Christmas time probably earlier because it gets busy.

Depends if the ticket is within the country for working reason or to a vacation country for holidays. For work it's perhaps one to two weeks before and for vacations it would be two or three months before.
