I heard about this story on the radio this morning, and was absolutely disgusted. Some person named Dani Mathers, who is apparently a playboy playmate was at an L.A. Fitness Gym in the locker room, when she snap chatted about a woman in the gym locker room who was naked and about to enter into the sauna, with the caption above.
1. This is an absolute violation of privacy. The woman behind her thought she was in a safe space, a locker room, and people do absolutely go into the sauna naked so she was doing nothing wrong.
2. Unlike a lot of things we sort of randomly say are body shaming, this LITERALLY is body shaming. The woman in question wasn't trying to show off, she wasn't posting her own naked photo, she was in a locker room and to be made fun of, violated by a total stranger, for just probably trying to relax is insane.
3. Mathers issued an "apology" stating essentially that she didn't mean to snap chat the image publicly. She said she only meant for it to go to her friends which is not actually an apology to this innocent woman. It's not an apology...at all. It doesn't make it better if you sent it to one friend or the now thousands who have seen it.
4. L.A. Fitness notified the police as this was a complete violation of their policies as cell phone photos are not allowed in their locker rooms for obvious reasons, and have banned Mather's from all L.A. Fitness facilities for life. Mathers has also been fired from Playboy. And a police investigation is pending.
My two cents on this is women have to already deal with a bunch of BS from the world about our bodies. The least we can do is support each other and realize bodies can look all sorts of ways and still be normal. You see the body shaming on GaG all the time from people who if we looked behind the screens, are no perfect 10's themselves, but you don't have to be a so called perfect 10 to be normal and beautiful.
That doesn't even touch upon the worst of it. To have someone violate your personal privacy to make fun of you is absolutely beyond the worst of the worst. No one deserves to be treated like that. This woman was minding her business, wasn't hurting anybody, and now her image is everywhere. It doesn't matter if you can't see her face clearly. I hope she and the gym both sue this woman and/or press charges because...
Stop and imagine if that were you and you woke up to see the whole world viewing a photo of your naked body. Not only that, someone is body shaming you on top of it for simply being in a gym locker room in a moment you thought was completely private.
