All The Big News About the PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim

I have an app on my cellphone that I use to get any kind of news pertaining to video games and technology. Lately It's being spammed with articles about the iphone 7, PS4 pro, PS4 vita, iwatch, Airpods, and a whole lot more. I don't really care about any of these since I'm more interested in the NX and what that will be. Still I want to let y'all know about each of these, I'll give info about all the others. Just in this myTake I will just focus on PS4 related things.

One article I read talked about how they compared the PS4 Pro, PS4 slim and the OG PS4. The original PS4 is 2 inches tall and 12 inches long, which makes the difference between it and the slim is more than an inch all around. That puts the new and improved PS4 at about 10 inches by 1.5 inches by 11 inches in size. With the PS4 pro and with its expanded power and talked up graphical capabilities. It's not trying to be smaller, if anything it's going to be bigger by almost a foot wide, two inches tall and almost 13 inches long. Looking at them all back to back gives a better mental picture of each size.

Now after hearing about their sizes I'm sure you're wondering how much each of them weigh. The PS4 pro will weigh about 3.3 kilograms (or more than 7 pounds), so if you're one of those people that move it around constantly. The pro probably isn't a good console for you in that case.

The PS4 slim is of course going to be lighter than the other 2, it's weight puts it at 2.1 kilograms (a bit more than 4.5 pounds). If you're the type of person that loves to carry your console around this one is meant more for your due to how easy it would be.

Now if you're wondering about the processing power, they've checked that out too. The PS4 Pro as it name states will be more powerful than the other 2 consoles. It will bump it up to being able to handle things at 4k resolution. Sadly even though it can support 4k resolution, the pro won't support 4K Blu-ray disc. Don't like that get you down though because it will be able to support 4K media via streaming services such as Netflix and YouTube. Though on the other hand 4K TVs probably will already have that kind of service already put into them. Along with how the PS4 share functions will only have 1080p videos.

The CPU is the same as the other systems but the pro is overclocked at 2.1 GHz. The original is only clocked at 1.6 GHz. The GPU is capable of an astounding 4.20 teraflops, while the one on the original and slim only tops at tops out at 1.84 teraflops. Now if you want to see the inside of each one the only video that has come out about that is for the Slim

Sadly with all of this monstrous power comes a monstrous electric bill. The Pro will be the worse out of them due to how when it's running, its maximum is 310 watts. So if you're in a money issue and can't afford paying a bill for that then it's best to aim for the Slim. The power that the Slim consumes is at most 165 watts while you're playing.

Only other differences they have found with the 2 new consoles is that just like the Original PS4. The Slim will also have 2 USB ports, while the Pro will have 3 on it. Which the 3 ports on the Pro, 2 will be in the front and 1 will be in the back of it.

Games

I'm sure a lot of you are extremely interested about what kind of games will you be seeing on either one. Well it just so happens that with the Elder Scrolls Online, it's going to be played in 4k resolution with the PS4 Pro. You will be able to download a patch immediately after the PS4 Pro launches.

It's not the only games that you will see with these new consoles. They did make a confirmed list of the games that you will get to play.

I don't mind that Sony is coming out with their obligatory slim model for this generation (they've done it since the PS1), but the PS4 Pro is what the original PS4 should have been at launch. When the Xbox 360 and PS3 arrived, they were competitive with medium-high level PCs, so there wasn't much difference between consoles and computers. Customers were getting a sweet deal on tech with those systems (the PS3 especially). For this generation, however, Sony and Microsoft intentionally underpowered their hardware so that they wouldn't have to sell at a loss for years. That has held back development progress. Now they are attempting to release a stop-gap "half-generation" to ameliorate the situation and squeeze more money from consumers.

Crap like this is part of the reason why I left gaming years ago. :-/

Honestly, I'm disappointed with the PS4 Pro. I saw the uncompressed videos of the games coming out for it on my 4K TV and I couldn't really notice any difference. Sony knows that the Xbox Scorpio will be much more powerful and frankly, I think that took some wind out of their sails.

It's worth mentioning that the PS4 Pro will not play games at a native 4K resolution. It will be upscaled to 4K, something which your post seems to omit.

I haven't owned any PS consoles, just used the emulators for them. XD

I think it's dumb to rule out games just because it's on a console and no PC. For me consoles or what ever you play on doesn't matter and the only thing that does is the game.

Yes, companies like to use code names when they're developing technology. That's one way they protect info from leaking out.

Just like the Xbox 720 became the Xbox One, the PS4 Neo became the PS4 Pro.

The Xbox Scorpio will have a new name once it's officially unveiled.

Looking at everything I think I'm going to end up with the One S. I actually always planned on getting a PS4 but then I heard they refuse to do mods with their Bethesda games. And Fallout and the Skyrim Special Edition are two of my favorite games/series. And it turns out the One S can upscale some games to 4K just like PS4 Pro (though for me it won't matter since I don't have a 4k tv). The only graphical superiority The PS4 Pro seems to have over the One S is that it can do DMR. But again without a high end TV it won't make a difference. Plus I can get the One S with 2TB Memory Storage.
