Hillary Clinton Has Already Lost the Election

So the first debate is scheduled for tomorrow, with two more following and a fourth debate between the Vice Presidential nominees, then that final sprint to November 8th.

But here's the thing, no matter what happens between now and November 9th, Hillary Clinton has lost.

Hillary Clinton Has Already Lost the Election

A little over a year ago when Donald Trump announced his bid for the Republican nomination, few believed he had a chance. Months later as he racked up win after win after win in state primaries Republicans started worrying about how to stop him from winning because they believed he had no chance in the general election, count me personally as one of them.

But now here we are, six weeks or so from election day and it's now the Democrats who are getting worried. They're literally bewildered at the fact that not only is the race close, but that Donald Trump has legit paths to victory in the electoral college. I work with a couple people who are literally acting depressed and completely out of character due to this simple fact, they're horrified because they know Trump might win.

And there in lies the kicker, because of this, Trump already has won.

Hillary Clinton Has Already Lost the Election

No, maybe he will not get 270 or more electoral college votes on November 8th (though he very well might), but even if that ends up being the case and Hillary Clinton becomes President, the fact that Donald Trump came as close as he inevitably is going to will rob Hillary Clinton of any mandate during her time in the Oval Office.

Donald Trump was not supposed to be a serious contender, he was not supposed to win the nomination and he wasn't even supposed to come within 50 points of Clinton (according to her). In the spring of 2015 most people thought the campaign and election were going to be nothing more than formalities, that Clinton would walk into the room and her hapless opponents in the primary and the general elections would kneel at her feet, that she would beat Warren Harding's 26% margin of victory in the popular vote and even turn Texas blue.

But that isn't going to happen, she's going to squeak by by two or three points, if she even squeaks by at all. The fact that she is going to win by so little against Donald Trump, who by many people's standards has made it his mission to alienate as many voters as possible is a testament to how lowly the American people think of her.

This election is already over. Whether or not Donald Trump wins, Hillary Clinton loses.
