While I think it may be a difficult task for a very young person to do, I don't think she has any problems and would be fine as long her family is supportive. I think everyone has the right to have an opinion in a democracy. That includes children too although they can't vote. It's the adult's decisions to make up their own opinion and I don't understand how Thunberg's opinions are bothering anyone. I don't think she's emotionally unstable. To me she seems like an intelligent and stable person who knows which rhetoric that's smart to use to gain attention and to solve a political goal. It's actually a good skill to have and she clearly knows what she's doing. You don't have to be a trained actor to convey emotions and a message a good way. Some people just knows it. I don't understand the complains of her getting too much attention either and people complaining about it just contribute to her getting even more.
I think some of the climate changes are natural and some are influenced by humans. I'm not scared of the climate changes. I do however think it's possible to solve it and people should attempt to slow it down. Everything in the world could be improved and that includes climate as well.

How did a teenager get to speak in the U. N. assembly?
The poor, manipulated girl! She may feel very much attached to the whole anthropomorphic climate-change ideology, but she should realize that this theory isn't too reliable.
"U. N. Predicts Disaster if Global Warming Not Checked"
「UNITED NATIONS (AP) _ A senior U. N. environmental official says entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed by the year 2000.

Coastal regions will be inundated; one-sixth of Bangladesh could be flooded, displacing a fourth of its 90 million people. A fifth of Egypt’s arable land in the Nile Delta would be flooded, cutting off its food supply, according to a joint UNEP and U. S. Environmental Protection Agency study.」

It's already late 2019 and this hasn't exactly happened yet, has it?
They scared my parents' generation, island- & archipelago-nations will all drown by around that time, and yet we still live. Their findings may be what they are, but their findings should be taken with a grain (or 'massive scoops') of salt!
😂😂😂
How've you been @White-American89? I see while I've been exploring a brand new chapter, you've still remained the same narrow-minded sack of hate, I guess some things just don't change, do they?
As for Greta Thunberg- I'm sure she did better than you could have at the age of 16, and I'm 16 now, and she's done a better job than I ever could have at speaking in front of world leaders, so no it is a cause she cares about, she's not emotionally unstable. She's passionate. There's a difference.
And as for the whole climate change issue. We cannot prove that humans are the cause of climate change, we could be the cause of climate change or it could have happened anyway. We don't know because we can't prove it.
But one thing which any person or child can see is that the way we live now is not good for the environment so whether we cause climate change or not, we should still change because either way we are harming the environment- which is very unethical and it can hurt future generations.
I don't understand why this girl got a platform. Little about her speech talks to the science. it's just an overly dramatic plea and accusation. She doesn't seem mentally ill, just an excited teen-ager with an agenda. Don't know if this is from parent indoctrination or her own thing. No way to know from this clip.

Don't institutionalize her yet, wait until we get some more memes off her.
Did not watch. Libtard poster-child. Now they send their children to do their bidding cuz no one will listen to them.
The last stat I saw was that the volume of Co2 around the world, our entire atmosphere, compared to the amount of man-made Co2, the latter is like.0003% or some absurdly small amount. And why it seems the computer modeling they rely on for predicting climate change is flawed.
Sure the majority agree, and they trust their colleagues to have concrete data - this is about feelings, not fact.I would really like to say that the way she delivered the message seemed wrong to me.
She could've made the speech in a more elaborative manner.
Like she should have started by simply putting the facts and then explain what is wrong today and what can be done, what are the measures that nations should take to protect environment and what steps she has taken to do the same, but what she did is she challenged world leaders in UN assembly, now that's something you should not do in order to Express your opinion. She has already accomplished more than any of you. But she's talking to a crowd that would rather believe in the most absurt conspiracy theories than scientific evidence. As long as someone uses the terms libtard or snowflake he has enough idiots chearing him on
Who wrote the speech for her? Bob Geldof?
Thematically, I am fully on her side.
However: this clip looks set up to me; it's an 'act' and not really convincing (to me) from the personal appearance.
The parents: to my understanding they encourage (d) her to do what she does - but aren't necessarily the actual decision makers (nor is the girl, I believe).
If I were NOT on her side with the 'issue': I would still appreciate what goes on. Young people are as much part of this world as 'adults'. They have a right for passions, opinions and visions same as everyone else.
The sailboat: I sail myself - passionately. And I find it pointless to use a RACING boat:
present days' offshore sailboat racing is ultra-commercial and rather backs the 'side' she is fighting against. A very unlucky choice.
Which does not change the fact that her trip is a great achievement in itself. No, but it does show the weakness of her position and personal capabilities of holding a civil discussion. Greta is a shame tool. She doesn't cite studies, research, formulas, models, or anything scientific in her rhetoric. She screams at you, impugns you, glares at you, tells what you a piece of shit you are, then tells you how she thinks you should run your life. And when you don't listen to her, she does the same thing only with more righteous indignation. She's a prop, not an activist. The real activists hide behind her, using her as a shield against criticism.
I don’t know enough about the issue outside of the video you attached. She seems to passionately believe in what she’s saying. I don’t think she’s deranged, just misguided. The product of liberal education and brainwashing. Never mind the illegal immigration going on across the U. S. and Europe and the attempts to erode nations sovereignties in the push for globalization. Never mind the degeneracy being taught in schools. Never mind that people apparently think you can invert your penis and that makes you a woman. Never mind the made up genders. Never mind the abortions that take place in mass scales. Climate change! That’s what we should be concerned with.
she's doing no harm... to be fair she is doing a better job than i would... i would just say "oi you posh tossers, your all a bunch of money hungry cunts"
My guess is her parents or handlers told her to kick it up a notch. They give her the speech she will read. Greta tried to channel her anger but she ended up sounding like a teenager when you tell her she can't go to a party. "I HATE YOU. I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU. YOU'RE RUINING MY LIFE!!".
Look i agree that children should not be used as political puppets, however, I'm not a psychology to determine she's deranged. Besides, the right has done the same thing, and when they got called for their bullshit, they act as if people are too sensitive.
I felt bad for the girl, then I realized for each hater on the internet she has like 10 supporters in real life who are more influential. And she is immune to all kinds of character attacks due to her autism, the only thing in her mind is probably the climate lol
It's an interesting situation tbhWell she was clearly raised by progressives, any one raised by them needs a lot of help. She is also entirely wrong but she is useful to progressives because she is a good emotional argument and also acts like a shield because if you rip apart her argument they will accuse you of attacking a "poor innocent little girl"(they did the same with David Hogg). They are scum and cowards who hide behind children. I don't think its her fault, its their fault for having no values.
She's a good actress that is for sure. Her parents, father i should say, thought her well.
For those who know the true secrets of what's going on and such, you know what i'm talking about
People are such sheep to instantly believe in anything and everything lol
Many of us know what happens behind the scenes and who this girl really is and such
The media is a strong tool i tell yah.Probably doesn't deserve an institution, but she is clearly young, emotional, and childish. Being that she is only 16, I'm not sure why they even entertain her juvenile rants. Obviously pollution isn't desirable, but sustaining large national economies and providing energy for billions of people around the world will have some kind of an environmental impact. These radical environmentalists have zero experience in maintaining an energy supply chain for a country, and they need to sit their cry baby selves back in their parent's basements where they can pretend to be victims and cry themselves to sleep every night.
I disagree with her message, but she is a sixteen year old girl. All of us were like that about things we were passionate about back then.
It was a little overdone and she should not have been the one to deliver the message, if it should have been delivered at all, but she isn't mentally unstable. Just emotional. I get like that sometimes when speaking passionately. Her parents carry the full blame for the condition she was in yesterday, they know she has asperger's and does not do well in places like that but they still let her be subjected to it, Child Protective Services need to be involved now as the parents are not putting the welfare of their child foremost in their minds and pictures like the one bellow do not help.
Yet another post with off-the-charts amounts of bias, personal insults, extreme hyperbole, authoritarianism, from you. Not surprised. But here's the thing... You've already lost any argument you tried to make by not setting this thread up for discussion. If you've gotta fudge your poll with options like C, then you're clearly worried about being able to debate the issues like adults without the unnecessary disrespect.
I think the responsibilities are a bit much for her being so young and on the Autism spectrum but she means well and the message she is trying to get across is a good one. That message being that real action needs to be taken in order to slow climate change.
It´s clear from recent media this kid is on the verge of having a break down. I wouldn´t be surprised if she soon vanished from the public sphere for an extended period of time.
I voted no because we should let her be a kid.
She sees the world too simple. I can understand her but I'm not a fan of her.
I do understand her sense of urgency, though.
