It's so people can leave feedback on videos. Not every video is good and people should be allowed to show that they didn't like the video.

@dustybiker That doesn't always work because YouTubers can easily filter out any negative opinions or feedback in the comments section. They can make it so comments with certain words or phrases automatically get deleted. It literally happens all the time.

OK so you think scam videos should be allowed to get only positive feedback? Because if a how to video has a ton of dislikes it let's people know that the instructions are wrong or the video is click bait. Sometimes scammers post give away videos and filter comments to prevent people from calling out the scam. The dislike button is helpful to let people know if the video is misleading.

@dustybiker Construtive criticism isn't always completely positive, it often means you will tell someone they need to improve something. There are YouTubers who filter out all comments with any criticism whatsoever, even if it is fair. What if someone posts a video about how all black people should be killed or they tell their fans to harass another YouTuber. You don't think people should be allowed to call the YouTuber out by showing them people don't like what the said in the video?

my only issue would be if you might try to look up a tutorial or how to fix something and the video is completely giving you terrible information a viewer may not completely understand that and won't have the dislikes to give them an idea that maybe they shouldn't take this personas advice.

however i understand that you can simply try to read other peoples comments on the video to get an idea as to whether the info is good or not. so eh i can see both side of this argument really.

You know mass reporting is a thing as well right? Just like how the dislike feature can be abused so can reporting (which i think can have even greater consequences). By this logic even that should be removed.

On top of that unless a large number of people report it fringe communities like that can just exist on the platform, for however long.
