What do you think is the underlying cause of this and what consequences could it have in the future?

The U. S. applies sanctions to other countries all the time as a means of blackmail. Why should Russia play nice with NATO countries who seek to destroy it?

Russia can afford to let the U. S., UK, and EU commit suicide. Russia's economy is doing well in comparison. It's building alliances and doing business with BRICs and other countries from Asia to Africa to South and Central America.

The global banking masters are insistent that the U. S. and its allies destroy their own people and ways of life in order to usher in the Great Reset/New World Order/One World Government. That is why they pushed Russia into a corner. But Russia, China and other countries aren't intimidated. They have enough economic and military might to forestall any attempt at all out aggression. In the meantime, they can watch the U. S. and Europe implode.

This Ukraine thing is all the fault of the U. S. and NATO. Russia tried for 8 years to negotiate a peaceful solution. What would the U. S do if a hostile power took over Mexico's government and started building military installations on our border?

It's just a chess game. Of course Russia sells it's gas to China, and it appears that China is adding margin and reselling to some European countries.

The worse part is that the average American believes that Russia is losing. Theat their military is inept. That Russia will have to fall.

It's just that the Rubel is shooting up in price, even above the US Dollar, and people are getting desparate. Some countries are all ready bankrupt and many Europeans are going broke trying to pay their energy bill, while being told that they need to get roof top PV by a certain percent of their annual usage. Right now, many are feeling the squeeze of high bills, government mandates, and a war many of them are not benefit. At some point the riots start and things begin to break down.

We dumb Americans assume it will be another day, another dollar. As things fall apart, China will keep expanding while right now Japanese ships are preparing to get Japanese off out of Taiwan as their intelligence is saying months to an invasion. The world is changing fast, and totally destabilizing. Troubling times.

There is enough gas in EU for private households. Problematic is the situation for ammonium nitrate producers and other industries which need a lot of gas. I guess world wide famine can be expected next year due less fertilizer production. Never seen emigration from regions with less food security... and lot of violence at US and EU borders.

well i live in germany. it was our glorious omniscient government who thought it was a really good idea to put a trade embargo on russian gas to sort of force russia financially to stop the war in ukraine and support ukraine with war supplies.

like every complete moron should have foreseen that russia won't just "take" that offense and do nothing about it. after all russia really never did anything aggressive to germany. in fact they always treated us "better" by giving us very good conditions on their gas.

and honestly, i think we should be happy that russias retaliation isn't worse.

well... now they sell their gas else where and our german energy economy will be utterly fucked this winter, cause our government is also refusing to get Nuklear and coal based power back on line for ideological ecological reasons. thanks NATO (who "suggested" this embargo), EU (who forces us to do this ideological ecological stuff) and Olaf Scholz (the most blatantly corrupt and incompetent bundeskanzler of all times). sad to see these mindless corrupt goons at work messing up our country.

Somehow shutting down your country's energy independence (like nuclear plants for instance or America's pipeline) and buying it from Russia is going green and healthy for our environment.. somehow (it's their logic not mine).

Russia's pipelines go through where? ... so they try to take out the middle man ripping them off and the Ukraine happening began. Sanctions begin and Russia is like "hey you say fuck me, I say fuck you too" and now everyone is acting like they didn't really fuck themselves... including the States. There is not „the“ gas supply to Europe to be cut off. Russia has five or six CNG pipelines going into Europe. Currently they have shut down Nord Stream 1 with another one of their transparent Soviet-style excuses. It won’t work for them, though. Germany‘s winter reserves are already at 86% capacity and the numbers for other countries are similar. Also with more CNG coming in via Africa and Norway and soon LNG coming in from the United States, their blackmail potential gets weaker every day. This winter 2022->2023 was the only one where they had half a chance.

Well the cause is obvious. In response to Russia invading Ukraine, the west launched economic war on Russia and Europe is moving as fast as it can away from Russian natural gas. So while Russia can it is inflicting economic harm on Europe.
This is to break the resolve of Western Europe in particular but it isn't working because they know they can't trust Russia.

Consequences are that Europeans will be cold this winter with some deaths from that and their economies will take a hit. Once Europe is off secondary sanctions can be applied to India and china to increase the screws on Russia.

We are in a WW3 scenario only instead of a blitzkreig it is a snailkreig.

By and largely it is back to the USSR Cold War.

Well as someone living in Europe I can tell you it's not fun. Unfortunately the US shadow government with its strict hold on the White House keeps fueling this terrible war by providing additional weapons to the Ukraine which means additinional deaths. This is really a war beween the US and Russia with Ukraine (and now Europe) caught in the crossfire. The United States needs to withdraw all of their troops from the world and deal with their own shit. I think that it was coming. All the Siberian oil and LNG travels through Ukraine- not all anymore but the 2 significant lines go that way. They supply energy for about 75% of Europe's winter. Refiner ies in the US frequently get tons of natural gas from refineries and it is just flared off in m ay cases. LNG is something the US has plenty of but getting it shipped can be dangerous and it;'s liquified and under pressure- and highly.

What I just wrote sounds like a DC inside the beltway blurb- a bunch of bullshit that doesn't answer any question but it sounds like it was said by someone who does know their ass from a hole in the ground.. I never told Europeans to embrace American neoconservatism and its failed formulas: submission to US interests, Russophobia, the insane belief in the "end of history," warmongering, militant liberalism, the rejection of international law in favor of a US-led "rules-based order," disregard to non-Western countries demands and so on. Without cheap Russian energy, energy will be costlier, Europe's industrial park will lose competitiveness and European companies will lose market to its Asian counterparts, especially after the Russian gov't succesfully redirects its energy exports to Asia.

It was completely predictable. Russia has a huge amount of leverage over the European NATO countries and is using it. Did anyone think that there would be no consequences when sanctions were put on Russia, oligarchs' property seized, and restrictions put on Russians visiting the EU? Or when Biden threatened to "turn the ruble into rubble"? We likely haven't seen the last of these consequences, either.

I’m assuming it has something to do with asymmetrical warfare designed to convince Europe to see things Russia’s way in Ukraine. And it has a great likelihood of working. Already energy prices in countries which implemented their green new deals are spiking, and there will be a dark winter of pain and death for the populations of the effected countries, but not likely for their ruling classes who feel none of the pain of their poor decisions.

Think of it this way, if a country like North Korea supplied nuclear weapons to terrorists that used them against us, would we be friends with North Korea and still trade with them?
