I agree with the NBA. He deserved that fine.
It has connotations attached to it. That is what makes it offensive. We all said it back then because we all believed that being gay was bad so we wanted to make sure everyone knew we were not gay. The N-Word has connotations to it but in reality has no meaning. It's the connotations that make it bad.

Freedom of speech has never been free by the law of cause and effect and plus he was at work.

Did he say gay? Is that all? If so, I don't give a shit. Being called gay (as a man) is basically being called a girl. Being called a girl as a man is a tease or put down because girls are physically weaker and cannot stand up to men athletically. This has been proved out by things like the video of a high school boys soccer team destroying a pro women's team in a scrimmage. Serena Williams (the world's best tennis player) getting killed when she's participated head to head against men.

So, it is a tease against a man's "manliness" to be called a girl or "gay".

I don't know the context. If he out there publicly stated gay people are substandard human then yeah, the league may want to reign him in. If he was talking and joking with a friend or teammate and called them "gay" then people need to grow the hell up and stop trying to be fascists and control people's speech all the time. People need to stop going out of their way to be offended by everything.

I watched the video. People need to grow the hell up. What miserable people to get offended so easily. I hope the U. S. doesn't go to war in the next 30 years. Our society is raising such the delicate, sensitive, emotionally fragile group of people that we'd not stand a chance against a ruthless country of trained killers. We are traumatized over a silly, off hand joke because the word homo was used. Oh dear, let's lower the flags and have a national moment of silence.

I watched and re-watched the few seconds of the video in question about a dozen times to make sure I understood what was said. It sounded like someone said or rote something about the Nets needing to "bring the good looks" because "they're lacking that", and Thomas' response was just something like they already had good looking dudes, and then he said "no homo" just to say he recognizes his teammates are good looking without being attracted to them. That's ALL that was meant. There was no slur or bad intent toward the gay community.

The fact he was fined for that comment is fucking absurd, and just another example of how weak, thin skinned and vindictive some segments of society are today.

I fully support the rights of the gay community, but this kind of shit doesn't help them. It only hurts them because it makes them look pathetic.

Thomas meant no offense with what he said. The fact people took offense speaks to the childishness and weakness of those people, not Thomas.

Seems ridiculous to me. But it is work and he can leave if he wants, he has freedom of speech and freedom of walking. People get fired for improper speech and poor leadership, so there is nothing abnormal here, just a question of management.
