in general, inflation keeps rolling... prices go up, not just because of this. Anything disrupting flow of goods will influence prices as well.

govt doesn't want prices going down, they want inflation... so they are happy. The rest of us have to adjust to our living standards. in the case of some, that means they are going to suffer or go to the govt for more help. if they don't get it, will get chaos, so it's a matter of how govt manages the distribution.

To be honest, I'm not even sure oil prices will rise meaningfully for a long period of time. The rationale for that is that the situation today is similar to that in the 70s, when the whole of the Arab world was set against Israel and willing to shut off oil exports as a result. I don't think that's really what the world looks like anymore. Over the past 5 years or so, Israel has brokered deals with countries like Saudi, Bahrain and UAE so I no longer think you can just assume they'll support the Palestinians in this recent action. Also, those countries really need the oil revenue. So I don't think you'll see a huge movement. I could be wrong (of course) but I think the differences between today and the early 70s are pretty meaningful.

Switzerland already has some of the highest prices in the world on things like food so we don't feel the squeeze when there's shortages because people sell it here first and we're not that many people anyway.
