Jihad means "a meritorious struggle or effort", not necessarily war or violence. Hamas is calling people to show support for the Palestinian struggle like the solidarity shown by those who opposed apartheid in South Africa.

If people are worried about violence, think of the violence that would befall anyone in the U. S., UK or Europe if they marched with Palestinian flags and BDS signs in solidarity with the 2.3 million innocent people who are crowded into the 139 sq mile Gaza strip (open air prison) and are being bombed right now.

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) said Thursday that it has dropped “about 6,000 bombs against Hamas targets” in Gaza since Saturday’s attack, which nearly matches the number of bombs the US used in Afghanistan in one year. On Hamas targets? Yeah, Israel characterized all people in Gaza as Hamas.

But what else is new? Israel has been murdering Palestinians for 75 years and still manages to portray itself as a victim.

I oppose and abhor harm to innocent civilians. That's why I have been a supporter of peaceful opposition toward Israel for over 15 years, ever since I started becoming aware of the reality. I have learned infinitely more since then.

I strongly support BDS. I support Roger Waters and anyone who is vilified for supporting Palestinian rights. I support the Glasgow Celtic Football club.

For better or worse, the reality is that the Arab states, with the exception of Iraq and Syria (which clearly have their own issues…) have almost completely abandoned Palestine. Accordingly, outside of Palestine and Iran (which is on the brink of its own revolution) the calls of Hamas will largely fall on deaf ears, as well they should. Sadly, we will nonetheless see an uptick in anti-Israel sentiment impacting Jewish communities around the world, and not necessarily from Muslim communities, and will also see a corresponding backlash against Muslim communities as well, and again not necessarily from Jewish communities.
