Diluting the culture of a country by force doesn't work. A thousand years after William the Conqueror defeated Harold at Hastings and the top families in England are still of Norman descent, not Saxon. Charles III is a direct descendant of William the Bastard/Conqueror. Almost all the hereditary peers are Norman descent as well.

So after a millennium the cultures haven't fully integrated. In America the population claim their heritage as Irish, Italian, African, etc despite never setting foot outside the US borders in three generations. There's no blending there.

England, when I went back after 15 years in South Africa, has separate sections in supermarkets for the foods common in other countries who have immigrants in the area. Polish, Bulgarian, etc and they got pissed off when it was uncovered a couple of years ago that in some areas all the meat had been slaughtered in a halal slaughterhouse so the Muslims wouldn't be offended. Never mind offending the Caucasian and Christian population.

This indoctrination - even though people here try to argue that the passages are nothing but "comparative" reading - is just another attempt to get the indigenous European population to roll over and capitulate. In France majority of French native dislike being full French and White when they're young they all want to have foreign origin, literally all kids are like that and in the 2000s when I was a kid and I saw it happen they were no woke stuff so to me what they seem to describe is actually the reality.

Try to find a young French person proud to be full native French with no foreign origin you will find none especially since native French get lots of shit from all foreigner (even White foreign such as Italian or Portuguese those are very proud of their origin and will usually side with others foreigner even non White agains't native, those are real situation of teenager here where all teen consider foreigner as cool and any native as boring because is the default.)

So to me knowing and having experiencing that I do not see the book as being woke but kind of describing the realty though is it weird to not try to get the kids to be nationalistic, in France they try to get us to be proud to be French which actually happen when the kids get older.

Yes! I was very surprised by that but I work with French people and in one conversation they said people were not very nationalistic and that was kind of shameful to be very nationalistic. I found it super interesting.

@NYlatefun Honestly it really depend on the person where I live French people can get extremely nationalistic (anybody over 25 / 30 usually) the younger are not not at all and would love to have a foreign origin cause they find it cooler and find being native boring.
You literally have both for example in my family everybody is very nationalistic except for my uncle and his girlfriend. Those hate France and love foreigner for some weird reasons, she even insulted our anthem, I wanted to tell her off but I was too shocked to say anything.

I’ve noticed that the younger French generations do find boring their own culture. Even with food, which I find fascinating because French food is the highest standard historically. But if you ask to you get French people about some classic dishes they don’t even know them.

@NYlatefun It's not so much they find French food boring it's just that they don't know anything about it because it take time to get made and usually the youth just eat stuff that are made in two second like gnocchi or cordon bleu or pasta or eat outside tacos, hamburger or kebab.
They're very lazy and don't like cooking so they just eat what they find convenient and majority of French parent don't bother cooking cause they don't like it and they have in general no money so they can't have good meals only boring easy stuff.

They don't know them cause their parents didn't cook them and they're too lazy to look it up cause they rather spend their money on their hobbies and not on food.

This is why they're not nationalistic then you're literally in the most "leftist" part of French culture, it quite literally have nothing to do with the real France, those kind of people are hated here by the average French person, they do not represent us in no ways.

Well, that's definitely a problem in modern life, the time that a classic French dish takes to prepare, even an onion soup, is too long. You need to love cooking to make many French dishes. So their parents never prepared them, they know some of it from their grandparents.

But they do enjoy food. a lot, they talk about it and they go to nice restaurants, but I guess it's more interesting to them to go to restaurants of other cuisines because it's more trendy. I don't know, just speculating.

@NYlatefun French dishes are long because is it very old cooking / recipe from a time where women didn't work and where the lunch time was very long 2 hours in general now French people prefer shorts pause because it mean they can go back home earlier.
Depend not all grandparent cook either some don't, one of my grandmother was s perfect cook but the other literally never cook because she's lazy and what she do taste bland, she literally just put some pork meat in the oven with some salt and that' it and accompany it with a soup with water and some veggie into it, it taste so bland and horrible.
A lot of people are bad cook even if they actually cook their meals cause they don't know how to do it properly and refuse to learn or are just lazy (like my mother) and fuck up everything cause the try to speed up things but you can't speed it in French cooking if not it end up tasting bad / dry.

I can't tell you the amount of time I've eat either uncooked meat or overcooked meat (that was impossible to chew), this was the majority of time... People just don't like cooking as for them is a lose of time and grandparent are often the same but usually cause they're too lazy / old for it and it demand too much energy for doing even a simple meal.

For eating at home they usually eat anything easy and fast, though saucisson and cheese and brad are still extremely popular stuff to eat when a person is lazy.
Most common things eaten by a child is ham or sausage (knacki) with mashed potatoes or any kind of pasta dishes (carbonara / bolognese or pasta with butter or pasta with emmantal), cordon bleu coquilette, gnocchi ketchup, nuggets, chicken with fries (either breast or thigh depending on the family preference) and canned tuna. Those are the most popular French family dishes.
But any average person do not go to restaurant at all especially not fancy one if they do they either just go to kebab and tacos for the youth either for family they fo to mcdo (and in m era when I was a child in the 2000s it was Flunch that was very popular).

The way I interoperated it, is not necessarily that its bad to be Irish, but rather they were making all Irish people out to be nationalistic. Surely there are some Irish people who DO think that way, but there are extreme nationalists like that in every culture, so that passage was a bit over-the-top.
