Even if it was a mental illness, how would you ban people with a mental illness from owning guns without restricting everyone? You would need new, rigorous mental health evaluations and background checks for everyone before buying a gun, and then continue with regular mental health evaluations after purchase for as long as it is in their possession, or else they would have to relinquish the gun because you cannot verify they are in a healthy mental state.

Personally, I would not necessarily be against something like this, but I understand that it would be easy to abuse this type of regulation by extending it to things that are not mental illnesses, or to cases which are mild and do not justify restricting their rights over.

Actually any one who has be prescribed any form of medication to deal with anxiety or psychological issue, related to their mental or emotional state, should not be allowed to own or possess a firearm, regardless of their gender or race. The same should go for anyone who is going to a psychiatrist or psychologist.

Yes, being a transgender person is a physiological condition and not a mental illness.

Do you know what a genetic chimera is? It's a person born with 2 (or more) different sets of DNA.

Here's how that happens. Imagine a woman gets pregnant with twins - not identical twins, but fraternal twins so each twin has their own distinctive set of DNA. Normally, each twin's zygote (the fertilized egg) attaches to the uterus and begins to grow forming an embryo and later a fetus and finally a baby. But, that's if the zygotes attach sufficiently far apart within the womb. If they attach very closely, then, as they replicate toward forming an embryo, the cells will bump into one another. You won't get two separate embryos... or fetuses... or babies. Instead, you get one person with two different sets of DNA... a chimera.

OK, now, if the twins were both going to be boys, the chimera is going to be a boy and likely be fine. Same if the twins were both going to be girls.
Ah, but what if one of the twins was supposed to be a boy and the other was supposed to be a girl?
The chimera is going to have both male and female DNA...
And then all sorts of things can happen based upon which of the sets of DNA develops what part of the body. Whatever happens, we would call this a "congenital condition" because what will manifest was due to what occurred during the gestation period while the baby was still in the womb.

OK, so, there are three critical traits in this discussion:
1. The gender or sex of the person. (Birth gender)
2. The gender or sex to which the person is sexually attracted. (Sexual orientation)
3. The gender the person perceives themselves to be. (Gender identity)

Birth gender is determined by the DNA that is used to formulate the genitalia. If the male DNA is used for that, the person's birth gender will be male. If the female DNA is used for that, the person's birth gender with be female. If both are used in some combination, you may get a hermaphrodite (person with both sets of genitalia) or God knows what other nightmare might occur (like a micropenis or elongated penis-like clitoris).

Now, sexual orientation and gender identity are developed in the brain, not in the genitals themselves.

If there's a mismatch between gender identity and birth gender, you're going to get a transsexual. So, for instance, Bruce/Caitlan Jenner had a birth gender of male but almost certainly had a gender identity of female. When the birth gender and gender identity are the same, we say the person is a cisgender.

It's not about being trans, how many hetro men have done shootings? A lot. By the logic of take away guns from trans you should be saying take sway guns from men then.

being trans is a psychological condition that in 70% of cases comes along with some other mental conditions as well. so i think that trans people should go through more thorough backround checking and psychiatric assessment in order to own guns, cause they're generally less mentally stable than the average normal person. i think generally that should be the case for all people with underlying mental conditions.
