What do you think about a guy going 100+ MPH in a car on an aircraft carrier?

We've recently had some interesting questions about speed, with some interesting results.

What's the fastest you've ever gone in a motor vehicle (car or truck)?

What's the FASTEST you've ever gone in any kind of propulsion vehicle on ground, water, air or space?

Here's an interesting story about a guy who set a speed record on a boat for going faster than 100 MPH on an aircraft carrier.

What do you think about that?

The official inspected the gauges in the car to determine the speed. So it was probably the speed the wheels were turning but likely the car was not moving that fast.

Also, in the Navy, a large surface vessel is called a ship. A boat is a submarine. Pretty sure no car has gone over 100 miles per hour in a submarine.

There are elect cars that will go 0 to 100 mph. In less than 1 seconds. The are gas motor cars that will the same thing in 4 seconds

I dont know how fast and f16 coming in for a landing on a carrier is going be he's doing it reverse and hitting the breaks and grab cable I would love to experience both

I'm surprised the U. S. Navy allowed it.

The real question is did he get it stopped though?

@douride2 From reports in the article, he did stop in time. The Italian carrier has a ski-jump ramp at the end of the desk that makes it easier to stop.

Interesting trivia. US carriers have steam powered catapults to launch aircraft. Other countries' carriers have ski-jump ramps to assist with takeoff. This is what allows the US to have more advanced (and heavier) jets with longer range, since the others have to limit weight in order to get the plane up to takeoff speed.

fast car, good brakes, well-rehearsed beforehand.
There are contests/races 0-100-0, quickest time wins.
It isn't that big of a deal on and aircraft carrier, they had the whole deck to use.
That ship has a ski slope flight deck, 754 feet long, so the braking was probably done on the up hill part of the deck.

It's an interesting concept that in some ways the speed of the boat could also be taken into account

@Shiprex Interesting point, but the ship was docked in port. In fact, if the car hadn't stopped in time, it would have been launched up the ski-jump ramp and into a cruise ship docked next to the carrier.

@OlderAndWiser It was a ship from the Italian navy, at least in that picture. The ship is the ITS Trieste L9890
It has a 754' flight deck, part of it is a ski slope deck.
