Is the dust on my car from the Iran war?

Question

A few days ago, I woke to find my car covered with a fine sandy dust thick enough to write your name in. In the press, I saw I wasn't the only one and sand blown from the Sahara desert was blamed.

But I was wondering, could it actually be from Iran? The product of all the bombings. Is my car covered with the dust of crumpled buildings and dead people?

More importantly, if sand from Iran (or the Sahara desert) can reach the UK then surely radioactive sand would fall on us should Trump go nuclear.

The aswer is: yes, dust on your car can originate from the Sahara, and I guess also from Iran. Mainly this phenomenon depends on particular wind and climate conditions. Some people here already explained more in details. In any case there's nothing we can do, safe wearing a mask.

Concerning radioactive dust resulting from nuclear weapons, that's indeed worse than plain dust, be the latter from bombed buildings, because the radiations go nearly through everything.

Whatever questionable people Mr Trump and Mr Putin may be, I'm not sure them to be stupid enough to throw around nuclear bombs. There still might be a few criminal idiots in some countries who would be prone to launch such suicidal attacks.

Its possible; I know each year like 28 tons of dust, is blown into the sky and then rains down on the amazon rainforest. It helps give the rainforest nutrients like phosphorus. Its nature's way of fertilizer. I saw that on a documentary while trying to sleep last night. Lol

Some dust from Sahara can reach Europe mostly in winter what causes rare phenomenon of pink or orange snow. However Sahara is huge and ends in Egypt that is 2000 km away from Iran. It's rather some dirt from fields around your house. Winds from south-east are very rare in Europe anyway

As for the dust on your car it’s because of plumes of fine sand and mineral particles from the Sahara Desert being carried north by strong winds and warm air currents, which then settle or wash down with rain.

You should run it through your mass spectrometer before jumping to any conclusions. If you don’t have a mass spectrometer, how badly could you really want to know what is in your dust?
I’d offer to let you send me the sample but if it didn’t get confiscated in transit i’d just end up snorting it the next time i’m in the dumps.

So you're afraid of a little fallout, are you? You know whos afraid of picking up too many rads? Snoothskins...

Anyway, jokes aside, you dont need to worry about fallout if a nuke went off in Iran. Fallout (radioactive dust) only travels a few hundred miles and typically in the direction of the prevailing winds, at our latitude as well as that of Iran, theyd be westerly... Pakistan & India would need to be concerned.

The dust on your car is something else.

Where I live, the dust from the Sahara doesn’t settle like that on vehicles but it makes for amazing sunsets and sunrises. You should check it out. Beautiful colors are produced when the sun is low.

Fallout depends in the wind direction after the blast. Let’s hope he picks a calm day. Everyone is so NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) about it.
