Why do some men not realize that for Valentines day, its only the thought that counts?

Why do they think gifts=buying something. Every Valentine's Day I have made handmade gifts for my past exes and stuff. All it cost me was a little bit of my time and some effort. (I'm a digital artist and can also cook.) Then they'd feel bad and feel like they need to rush to the store. What's so hard about sitting down with a piece of paper from the printer and some pens/markers? Or some scizzors?

Last night my boyfriend randomly asked me if I would get mad like other girls if he didn't *buy* me anything for Valentine's day.

Because no body told them.
I didn´t know that the thought or the act is enough until I talked about Valentine´s day with sister and our different views about that because she had the same problem with her boyfriend.
The problem is that some guys grow up with all those chilvarious ideas without realizing that not the amount of cost is what matters but the act of giving.
There are often times things that cost less that are better as a gift than the financial prize.

Everyone’s love language is different. I think part of him thinking that way is the way Valentine’s Day is advertised. Society advertises it as women want the most expensive gift on the market. It’s advertised this way because The income that major holidays like Valentine’s Day bring into the US

Because even if you make a handmade card and some handmade gift, chicks still want crap from the store. And not just some crap, they want all the crap. They want a card, something sentimental and personal to them, some flowers, some candy, some jewelry, and then they want food. All for a day that isn't even personal to the two of you like say your anniversary

Maybe another part of it is it seems as a guy you always get the short end of the stick on Valentine's Day. You always put more effort into it than you ever get back out. Like with Christmas sometimes you give a better effort than you receive, but then next Christmas the tables are turned and you get a better effort this time than you gave. Same with Birthdays

But for most guys on Valentine's Day this is never the case, you always give more than you receive, and then in exchange you get the privilege of having sex with your partner
