Do you know the true history of Valentine's Day and why we celebrate it?
Valentine's Day has its origins in ancient Rome, where a festival called Lupercalia was celebrated in mid-February. This festival, which involved the exchange of gifts and the pairing of romantic partners, was eventually suppressed by the Roman Empire in the fifth century due to its pagan associations.
However, the tradition of celebrating a day dedicated to love and romance was revitalized in the 14th and 15th centuries, when the holiday became associated with St. Valentine, a Christian martyr. There are several different stories about St. Valentine, but the most accepted one is that he was a priest who was imprisoned and executed for performing marriages for Christian couples during a time when such marriages were banned by the Roman Empire.
Over time, the holiday evolved into a celebration of love and romance, and it is now celebrated in many countries around the world, typically on February 14th. The holiday is associated with the exchange of cards, gifts, and messages of love between partners, friends, and family members. While the holiday has evolved and changed over time, its original association with love and affection remains an important part of its celebration.

Depending on the story its in honor of 2 Christian Martyrs called St. Valentine and Valentinus.
The Catholic and Christian Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, all of whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men.
St. Valentine defied the Emperors decree and married people in secret. To prevent discovery of a soldier having a wife or family, instead of writing their name on a letter they would write "Your Valentine". It later evolved into a day of romance every Feb 14.
I remember it started with a guy named Valentin I believe, and I can't remember exactly what happened but it was a dark story to it. My middle school teacher basically told me, all of the holidays we celebrate here in America have some sort of negative stuff associated with it. So far, it hasn't been a lie, especially when you dig deep into the actual meanings behind certain days that are celebrated.
But then again, what do I know? She could've been just saying it to scare us.
ROFL. Today's concept is nothing more than a marketing scam by companies for profit. It has less than zero meaning in relation to the original Valentine Day.
The original Valentine's Day FEAST - nothing about romantic nonsense - marks the burial of SAINT Valentine who was martyred / MURDERED for his Christine beliefs.

The day was originally created to sell greeting cards, a midway stop between Chridtmas and Easter, days when people buy and send cards. Over time, other companies have used it to sell flowers and candy.
So, simple answer to the question... clever marketing.
It is a Hallmark Holiday and the final holiday closing the Business community sucking the consumer wallet dry from Halloween to present. h
A girl was sitting on a tree stump writing a love poem when a boy threw a newly invented confectioner called chocolate, right at the girl... smearing her poem, but subseqently, winning her heart... having no idea that chocolate was a mood lifter to girls for little did we know of the science. The ended up shooting arrows together and falling head over heels in love, writing cards to one another, and the rest are intimate details better read in a novel. Girls are so weird...
His name was Valentino.
And that's all a lie... no I don't...
Al Capone and Bugs Moran they were best buds until Moran disrespected Capone mothers famous bolognese sauce by saying “it needs a little salt” this started a feud that lead to all out war in Chicago rumor spread all over town that Capone wasn’t really Italian because Italian food as we all know is very salty but Moran was accused also because he was unaware that you add flavor to bolognese by seasoning the tomatoes with lemon juice this lead to an all out war brother against brother, mothers against daughters, and restaurants against black patrons

The interesting thing is: No, we really do not. There are no solidly researched publications on this. One hears variations on the same few story lines parroted in different places, but we don’t have a good history of this.
So, it can be whatever you want. Have fun imagining your version of the story!
Nobody does. Frankly it’s impossible to know. Even before capitalism and consumerism corrupted Valentine’s day, merging cultures turned the celebrations into a bit of an amalgamation of various holidays. This is mostly true for a lot of holidays. The origins of the festivals and rituals that eventually became Valentine’s day as we know it are ancient and it would be difficult to specify with accuracy which came first or which contributed more to the spirit of the holiday.
Like most holidays it has multiple origins but the generally accepted one is it celebrates the martyrdom of St Valentine who kept performing marriages for Christians. As Christianity taught celibacy for all members in its infancy Rome felt it was an attack on its structure that saw the state as an extension of the family. So a sexless marriage was a pure abomination in Roman thought so they executed him.
Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14.
It originated as a Christian feast day honouring one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine.
Through later folk traditions, it has become a commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world, with little to do with any significant cultural, religious connotations.
No but I have a feeling it's used for marketing now.
I think it was when Cupid shot that arrow through that guys heart?
Yes, I do. There were two Valentines by the way.

No I’m not exactly sure. My guess is it’s a made up commercial day for America.

Anything with the word "saint" in it, is always a Christian origin. Jews don't do this sort of stuff
I've read it a some point, but I'd have to read it again to explain it to someone
I did read about it once, but can't remember now.
