Why are there so many Valentine’s Day haters?

“It’s commercialization so the corporate card and candy makers can line their pockets.”

Some of you animals would hate on National Black Cat Day too.

Nobody has to participate. Cinco de Mayo isn’t a real holiday either, but it doesn’t stop people from celebrating it.

Would making alcohol and tacos a part of Valentine’s Day pep you haters up some?

Okay, fairness now: how many things WOULDN'T be improved with addition of beer and tacos? It's a short list. I'm pretty sure that even "beer and tacos" isn't on it; adding more will make it synergistically better.

But as to the day: it's a romantic celebration on top of a saint's day, which in turn was on top of a Hellenic pagan celebration that was actually a lot like the modern holiday, only with more sex and less chocolate. Maybe it's a cyclical thing, and we just a good saint to bring it up a few notches in peoples' estimation? Hmm... well, there are at least a half dozen patron saints of beer, but I don't seem to be able to find any for tacos. You talk to Mexico; I'll contact the Vatican.

I confess I'm not fond of the day... I feel like it's contrived and more commercialized than Christmas and that's saying something.

But I'm not a hater. And Mrs. Snow got flowers today lest we do what happened one year and not do that and the acted as if the Force was no longer with us. And my daughter got Godiva caramel and chocolate hearts in her lunch box. The boys got candy too -- we're equal opportunity Valentine's Day in my house. But reluctantly on my part.

As for why the haters... perhaps they're the ones who can't get anyone even on this day.

I don't hate Valentine's Day, but let's be honest. It's a fake holiday created by companies to sell cards, flowers and candy. It's not a special day.

To me it's only a holiday if the banks and government offices close, so there are a lot of those. But once the Valentine's candy is gone, they'll restock the shelves with chocolate Easter bunnies. Admit it, you like biting their little heads off too.

Yeah... I see their point... it's like Christmas or other days that are utilized to make money.

I won't shit on Valentine's day... when I was "sort of single" it was always a day that finding a woman to bang behind the garbage cans was so much easier. I'd say Valentine's day is up there with New Year's for finding some lonely woman that wants a penis in her.
