at this point in time we are just friends. ever since we agreed to go to the prom together she's been acting different around me (in a good way, I think) since we aren't an actual couple should I just go as friends or should I try to push my luck and ask her out to the movies this weekend before the prom(which is next weekend)

I would say ask her. There is nothing wrong about taking a chance. That's how most things happen is because people chance their luck. And maybe more would come out of it for both you and her!
