Definitely send her flowers! Tell her you want to take her out for dinner. She'll feel special! As far as a gift, if its only 4 months, flowers& dinner is cool! Buy her nice flowers & if you want give her a bday card and write a little bday note! If you do all this, you're a man! Have fun!
Honestly the best gifts are the unique ones. It doesn't have to be pricey, in fact I hate it when its really expensive. You know her, and what she likes - for example, to me a dozen red roses is amazing,or once a boyfriend gave me a record player after my old one broke, nothing amazing it wasn't really expensive, but it meant a lot to me. To me doing something unexpected and unique to you and that person is always the best gift. Something that shows you know her, because no to be cheesy or girly, but that's what a girl wants more than anything - to know her guy cares about her and knows her more than anyone else. If you've been dating for four months, you should have a good idea about her interests and hobbies. Buy her a gift pertaining to those, or even ask her to go on a trip with you.
Find out her all time favorite classic of old school flicks, 3 or 4 of them and get her those DVDs if she doesn't have them already. if she's not keen on going out to the bar, spend the night watching her fav movies. and you make the pop corn

Er... right, my ideal first date would be a nice meal somewhere nice. This would hopefully be a good setting where we could chat and get to know each other. We could then go somewhere for a walk to carry on the conversation. The night would then end with me walking her home and with any luck a plan for when we could meet up again
