Need help understanding the meaning of side hugs?

I looked it up on urban dictionary. For some men a side hug could mean he's hiding his erection and a full frontal hug may make it obvious to the other person. And actually let them know they are attracted to them. And they don't want to be more uncomfortable. I have a similar situation. Recently a friend (male) has moved from frontal hugs to side hugs. Ii hadn't seen him in months and was greeted a side hug. Let down to say the least. But was given a full hug when we parted. I don't know men are hard to read. It must be a guy thing. But urban dictionary seems to maybe hit nail on head.

I really don't think it means that someone doesn't like you. if someone is busy talking to someone or standing in front of something I will give side hugs. I wouldn't want to go stand in front of someone who is occupied to give them a hug. I think its about the most convenient spot an the moment to give someone a hug. like which ever side they are on what side of a butt cheek to smack or pinch haha. I don't think I think about which side I should hug someone I just go up and do it.

Hugs are hugs! Though personally I'd rather be hugged from the front. :) I think side hugs are more of like, a friend thing between boys and girls. I knew this guy who always hugged a girl from the side, but they were just friends, not interested in each other. Though of course, if a guy likes you, I'm sure any hug would suffice for him.

As for your guy, it certainly sounds like he really likes you.
