Why do people who are sick with swine flu not stay home??

Question

Honestly I don't understand or comprehend why people who have a potentially deadly virus are going around sometimes infecting people with compromised immune systems and feel no moral or ethical need to stay at home till they are better. It's just wrong-I wonder why these people don't stay at home? I just had someone with it come into my store-of course I won't be sick, I take like echinacea, zinc & coldFX stuff and others and I clean everything so this I just don't get---*rolls eyes & grumbles*

Yesterday I was at the grocery store and this lady was coughing loudly all over the place! Several people were looking at her and quickly moving off. I am immuno suppressed and have had the shot, so this really p*ssed me off. I'm a bit of a sh*t disturber so I walked up to her and loudly said, "Jesus - cover your mouth or go home - not everyone wants to share your germs!" She looked at me, turned red and apologized. Didn't stop me - I then explained that people are dying of the damn flu and it was obnoxious to parade around hacking spit all over other people's food! She aplogized and got out some kleenex and at least started with that.

I firmly believe that some people are either just so stupid or so self involved that they really don't notice that what they're doing is disgusting. When I told this lady off, she changed her behaviour immeidately and will probably start using at least a kleenex. So - my advice is to confront people - be the chlorine in the gene pool of life!

My school set up a temporary infirmary where anyone who's sick is supposed to go, but a lot of people are staying in their dorms instead, and some still go to classes if they're physically able to. Most of them probably think it's not H1N1; I'm sure we've all gone to classes or done other activities when we weren't feeling well because the symptoms weren't bad enough to slow us down--if people only have mild symptoms in the beginning, they're not going to put their lives on hold. Plus, no one wants to be a couple weeks behind in school.

If someone who's working doesn't stay home, it's most likely because they can't afford to. People who do that are thinking of how the recovery will hurt them in other ways, not about how it could potentially be deadly for them or anyone they infect.

We are in a crisis. The president signed a stimulus package that supposedly made a million jobs available. This has been proven false by both conservative and liberal media. While this happened our unemployment rate was 9.8. Right now it's 10.2 and rising. People need their jobs and most importantly need to put food on the table.

If your an average worker, living by paycheck, staying home doesn't look good for your future prospect. Honestly I can understand your view, but "staying at home" sounds much easier on paper when you've got a family and kids to feed.

Now if your talking about idiots who don't have jobs and wander around shopping malls even though they are sick, yes they are complete morons who should be staying home.

I am assuming you are an American because nobody else on the planet has such a stringently protestant work ethic that they feel the need to go to work when they're crawling to and from the bathroom every 15 minutes to dry heave. The rest of the world tsks and shakes their head as we (Hey, #1 economy) work upon our ever growing pile of used tissues and discarded throat lozenge wrappers and complain about how crappy we feel but we came in anyway. It makes no sense, but it's cultural.

As a side note, it is probably a good idea to introduce minor discrepancies into your lifestyle. Living in a sterile environment may screw you later, much like trees grown without wind can barely stand up.

I think that some people just don't know any better, or, just don't really care if they compromise the health of others. I saw a woman wearing a face mask at a store that I work and inquired someone else about her. He told me that she was asked to leave the store once before because it was feared that she was either sick, or trying to avoid getting sick. Either way, it scared some customers off and made others just look. Then of course, some people could hold such an idea that they won't get others sick.

I don't understand either and it p*sses me off, today in class I had to sit next to girl who was coughing like crazy, she was like omg I hate this I don't even feel sick I'm just coughing a lot. She's so dumb that's the first thing that happens when you get the flu then you get a headache. Good thing was we moved seats because we had to work in different groups.

I try to avoid people that are sick or even if they look sickly whenever possible. Some people call me a germaphobe, but I just prefer not to catch anything.

So what are they supposed to do?  Quarantine themselves inside the house and not leave until they're certain its safe?  Swine flu has killed maybe a couple hundred people in the past year, while the regular flu kills 36000 people every year.  Its obvious they're both "potentially deadly" but then again so is the common cold.  I think you people are blowing this way out or proportion.
