Listen to music - I often make a playlist with my favorite slow songs and I listen to it to make me sleepy and just make me want to sleep. Sometimes I get bored of that playlist so I go to this website called 8tracks where you can find all sorts of playlists and I search under the tag 'sleep'.
Read a book - I don't know if it's just me, but if it's really late and I'm tired, reading a book will get me to feel even more tired after a while. So pick up a good read and when you feel like your eyes can't keep opened anymore, drop it and catch some Zs!
If you want to sleep, you gotta stay away from your phone! It won't make you sleepy at all, it will have the opposite effect. The brightness of the screen will send the wrong signals to your brain, since it assimilates light with waking up.

When I actually need to go to sleep at a certain time I usually just try to think of nothing, close my eyes, and wait for it to happen. I used to have some really bad problems with sleeping, but blanking my mind is what helped me.
What Rail2k said was pretty good. Clearing my mind is the only thing that has ever helped me. Though it's extremely difficult for me and there's only a few times I've been able to do it.

I use melatonin. It's an over the counter, all natural sleep supporting pill. It just makes you tired enough to fall asleep. Take one or two an hour before you want to go to sleep. Ussually works for both my mom and I. (She's 58 and has insomnia)

I do all of these until I get even more tired and eventually I end up falling asleep (sometimes).Breathing. Really really concentrating on breathing slow and steady. Lie on your back and just clear your head and keep breathing. Works for me anyways.
If weed is an option, that works great.
YouTube "ASMR". Shit knocks me right out.Listen to soft rock or something until I get tired.
Well, I have a prescription for Xanax, so I just take that. Best sleep ever
