Of course it is. It's important to find a good natural position to squat and it differs from person to person. Shoulder width apart isn't any universal rule. I've found that the best way to find it is going to a deep squat like your going for a shit and just find what feels most comfortable. Usually the natural position is the one you go into immediately.

Seems perfectly safe, the sumo deadlift (wide stance deadlift) is very popular among weightlifters and the deadlift works a lot of the same muscles.
My trainer told me that everyone is different and some stances are more comfortable for some than others. As long as its not causing you pain then go with whatever is comfortable.

Sounds like a sumo squat to me, and by doing that it would focus more so on the inner thigh. Your lower body may become disproportional due to that.
