Interesting when you say "Religious" people you think it's only "People who read the Bible." Other religions teach similarly. There are plenty of people who are fat, religious, and not "Christians."
To the one who said "Christians pick and choose," we read the Bible in context, we understand that through Christ, the law of the old testament was fulfilled. Those laws point out to us, that we all need a Savior (who is Christ Jesus), and that there is NO POSSIBLE way that any human can ever live a life "good enough" to receive God's favor. The sacrifice Christ made provided a freedom for a Christian. Christ himself said that the two greatest commandments were "to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, strength," and "Love your neighbor as yourself." All of God's commandments can be wrapped up into those two.
Some Christians abuse the freedom we have, true. Some of us though have genuine medical issues that make it harder to lose weight, no matter how good we eat, or exercise, (like Hypothyroidism). Or in my sisters case, cancer caused her to gain a lot of weight. Don't assume that JUST BECAUSE someone is FAT, automatically means they are gluttons (which is actually WHAT THAT VERSE SAYS).
Funny how Christians are told to not judge anyone (by everyone), yet everyone else seems to think it's okay for them to judge Christians... *hmm*

While I haven't studied theology, I do understand some of the basics. Christians today are not bound by all OT laws, but the law of Christ. This does contain some OT laws, but not all. Please do some decent research before trying to condemn a group of people.
The bible is also a rendition of a story written in a book that has been paraphrased and translated from the beginning of biblical time. So who knows, maybe they meant you're supposed to give fat people a knife, so they can cut what they're eating so they don't get it lodged in their throat.
Fat foods taste good and are so ingrained in the culture. It can be very hard to break those habits and practice healthy lifestyles. Also they love their god but like their throats even more.

So? The Bible says a ton of stupid shit.
www.onegirl.org.au/.../house-gif.gifReligion and hypocrisy go hand in hand.
Christians don't follow the bible to the letter, just cherry pick the verses they like and feel are "correct".
Not many parents stone their kids for disobeying or shame a person for eating shrimp.I can give another interpretation of that - you should not use up all the natural resources for yourself, e. g., a glutton. You should not be greedy. I think that's what it means. I believe in the good messages given by the holy books, doesn't matter which religion (I'm not a christian). There is a word for people who purposely twist the good words - its called "pervert."

Isaiah 34:7The Bible doesn't say that... But anyways, it's because all people deal with some sort of temptation or struggle. For some it is gluttony, for others it's something else.
It also tells you not to eat bacon, rabbits and shellfish.
If McDonalds had been invented in Biblical times, that probably would have been on the list as a health risk, too.Really? Is that really what the bible says? Word for word?
No. Does not say that. Also don't take what some of it says in the bible, in a literal way, there's a deeper meaning to it. ...
