I need real answer about my braces problem.

My mom lost her job working as a teacher because of the layoffs in our town..

I've had braces on since end of 07.. but since we don't have the money to pay monthly payments anymore I haven't gotten them tightened in months... I still owe another almost 3,000 on the braces. but we won't have the money anytime soon and the braces are hurting really badly...

They are cutting up my mouth and breaking off...

Has anyone been in this situation..(if so what did you do?)

I have no problem getting them off seeing how my mouth wasn't in such a bad situation in the first place (just an overbite)

Is there any websites or hotlines or buisness that help you in this situation... my orthodontist won't see me without the payments...

my gums are starting to cover my teeth in some places and in others my gums are recieding...

I need legitimateadvice?

I can't say for sure if there are any websites or anything that could help you out. However, if they are injuring you, then something definitely needs to get done. As to what exactly, I can't say. One option is to try going into your orthodontist anyway with your mom. Sit down with them, explain the situation in full, that she's out of a job, and show him what's hurting you. Depending on who you see, they might in turn being willing to work something out for you, maybe reduce your payment or something. The point is, you both need to go in, and you both need to work something out. Usually, if you're willing to work out even some type of small payment each month, they will work with you.

If for some reason your orthodontist can't or won't do anything for you, you might try looking into a local dentist. Either they might be able to take care of it, or it's possible they can reinforce the issue to your orthodontist..

If for some reason, that still doesn't help, you could try to remove the wires, not the whole braces, but just the two wires from them. I should stress that this should be a last resort type of deal only. If you need to, each brace has a rubber band, typically, if you remove those, you can usually pull the wire straight out. You may have to clip it near the back teeth with wire cutters. Obviously, should you attempt this, 1) Someone else should be doing the work. 2) You need to be extremely careful. There's a reason you're paying the orthodontist $3000, it's because he's skilled at this, you're not. So please, do not attempt to remove them yourself unless absolutely needed.

I rated your question high, I can't really help as you most likely live in America and how things work over there are different from where I am. But hopefully the high rating will get more answers flooding in. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help. Tomorrow I'll have a search on the net to see if there is anything I can find for you but right now I've really got to be getting to bed.

Call your orthodontist and explain the situation. Even if you can't afford to continue with your braces, I don't see why he/she couldn't just take them off for you, especially if they're actually causing damage at this point.

If your orthodontist isn't willing to help, talk to a dentist as soon as possible.
