Can I go to the ER and just ask for pain medicine?

I don't have any with me right now, but I'm starting to have pain, so can I ask for some without actually having to stay? I have class at 9:45am (it's 7:40am where I live), and the nurse isn't here yet, so I can't go to her.

They will not give you narcotics , they may put you through test to find where your pain is
the ER are pack this time of year with flu, cold etc so prepared to wait and i tell you
be careful taking them NSAIDS ( Motrin, Aleve) they can cause kidney failure, bleeding
in stomach. there was guy who took so many he was vomiting blood cause he had
ulcer that broke in his stomach

I'm having chest pain and it's interefering with my life,.
It's non-cardiac, so that's reassuring.

And I already have an ulcer, but I don't know if it's caused by too many NSAID's or that H. Pylori bacteria.

I'm just looking out for you.. i am 46 so i know myself
taking them what risk they cause.. you really would
be better off going to pain clinic.. chest pain could be
coming from your ulcer, gall bladder disease from
using too many NSAIDS. I'm not trying scare you
but i care deeply about others that's all !

If I do go to a pain clinic, I'll have to call first. In the meantime, I need to find out how to get rid of this pain.

And I do have anxiety, but the thing that puzzles me is I still get it, even when I'm not anxious about anything.
And a strained chest muscles is possible, but I don't know how it happened.

Yes you got watch NSAIDS they damage kidneys , cause gall bladder disease,
ulcers , bleeding ulcers

That's why I stopped taking them.
My doctor wanted me to keep taking Naproxen for leg pain, but I stopped because it might have caused my ulcer.

So I'll just have to deal with the pain without pain medicine. Tylenol does nothing.

liver damage but I hope you can get doctor who
can help you with your pain, you may have
emotional pain coming from worrying about school
it might be making you over anxious at times
Medicines can help with pain that is safe :
Lyrica, Tegretol, Elavil , Neurontin ( low dose)

narcotics they can be addictive and your young
i would never give you narcotics but yes a doctor
can give you Lyrica, Tegretol, Elavil , Neurontin

most health insurance will cover it
treats Pain, Depression

What about anxiety? I take Zoloft for that, but maybe Cymbalta will help with the pain.

You have no chance. You will have to be seen by an ER Doc and thats going to cost you big time on your Bill. Those people are very strict about handing out pain killers.

No it's chest pain. And I've been to that ER several times for it, so if I tell them I need medicine for the chest pain, I'm sure they won't need to see me, sine they did several times.

And why spend money on pain medicine when I can just get it for free at the hospital?

My doctor doesn't listen to me at all... that's why I'm getting my PCP changed.
I can't take anymore NSAID's because of an ulcer, but it might be caused by the H. Pylori bacteria. So until I know, I'm not taking anymore NSAID's.

Tylenol doesn't help either. I told my doctor it doesn't work, so can I get cortisone injections instead. She said she's not suspicious that I need them yet, so keep taking the Tylenol.

I don't know what part of it doesn't work doesn't she understand.

I'm tired of going to the ER, and getting told the same thing. All of my ECG's were normal. I even saw two cardiologists.

I'm done with them... I'm calling them today and telling them I want my PCP changed.

If you mean just going in and demanding it, no. Coming from a person who has worked n medical, you will be viewed as drug seeking, and will most likely not recieve medication unless you have pain.

If you're just having minor pain take some OTC pain med, otherwise it's a waste of doctors, medical staff, and yours to go to the ER for minor pain

Actually, I did read it, and it came across as you demanding. Don't ask a question, and get ticked off by an opinion that you don't enjoy. You'll pay a lot more for pain medication and an ER bil than just going to CVS. If your pain was taken by an ibuprofen, your pain is not bad enopigh to go to the ER.

They're not just gonna hand out pain killers. They keep you on observation for like an hour and run tests to make sure you actually need them. If you think you really need them for something then by all means go and have it check out, but don't expect it to be a quick in and out thing.

It all depends on the pain. Are you talking like minor pain? That's not what ER is for. And you'll be there way more than 2 hours. Might be a good idea to go get some OTC pain relief at the store.
